Clear and logical points based on scientific evidence and psychological understanding that makes complete sense to me both rationally and intuitively. Learn, and many others who told me about what self-directed education looks like in their amazing families.

The conveyor belts went faster and faster in my dreams, with me running desperately behind, trying to get the mandarin oranges perfectly straight. We are socialised to believe that schooling is synonymous with education, but it's only one approach. I read the books which claimed that the problem in education today is that we don’t teach children enough facts, and the books which argue that children just need to be kept under control better.I can't wait to share it with our network of families and educators who are thinking differently about education. We are experiencing delays with deliveries to many countries, but in most cases local services have now resumed. This enables children, including those diagnosed with special educational needs, to flourish in their own time and on their own terms. What I did not expect is the power this would have in transforming my life and enabling me to release trauma I had been completely unaware I was not only carrying but inadvertently passing onto my children.

I so appreciate the work she put into compiling the information so that it’s not just opinion but full of information that’s so helpful in understanding unschooling. I thought that alternative education wasn’t something I’d ever consider for my child but it turns out that I really didn’t know what this meant until I listened to this book.Changing Our Minds , by Dr Naomi Fisher, is an invitation to all of us to deschool ourselves and think anew about what is best for children. To be honest, I downloaded this one because it was the only one available on Audible and I thought I’d give it a go. You will not be disappointed ― Blake Boles, author of Why Are You Still Sending Your Kids to School? It is going to be about the psychology of self-directed education, it couldn’t be much more niche than that.In this eminently readable book, Dr Fisher takes a wide-ranging approach to exploring and explaining self-directed education, from the philosophical to the practical, the pedagogical to the psychological. Now that schools have reopened, most seem to have forgotten how ridiculous the material their children are having to learn actually is, and also just how counterintuitive the way it is they are expected to learn it - parents are just relieved it’s no longer on them. The book concludes with convincing case studies that show that 'education' and 'schooling' are not synonymous. Alan Thomas, Harriet Pattison, Peter Gray, Gina Riley, Rebecca English, Blake Boles, Pat Farenga – to my surprise most of them said yes, and I spent an hour by Zoom talking to them and then many hours transcribing what they said (I did not yet know about transcription software).
