About this deal

Her essay collection, The Dead Ladies Project, was hands-down one of the best books I read last year, so I spoke with Crispin about The Creative Tarot, her relationship with Chicago, and what’s she’s writing next. So far, I haven't seen any tarot spreads at all (I was hoping for a few at least) and she included pictures of her cards in the book which was a bit odd.

He had some interesting thoughts about the tarot card reading qabalists, many of whom wrote books like the ones I've mentioned above. For the Magician card, The Tempest by William Shakespeare, The Juggler painting by Marc Chagall, and Hilma af Klint’s work. Taking the Tarot to Heart provided romance-themed meanings and spreads for folks experiencing issues with love and relationships. We responders not only benefit from but often need an external starting point, whether that’s another work that inspires them, a creative prompt, or a rough draft that they can rip apart.I understand that we’re dealing with 50 plus cards and they can’t all receive extremely detailed treatment, otherwise we’d get the George R. Maybe we meet a man that year because of this or maybe we don’t, but maybe in the act of trying—of going out and seeing people again—we start to fall back in love with our own lives, and the whole man thing becomes less of a priority. Crispin's ( The Dead Ladies Project) stated goal is to use the tarot to assist and inspire artists and creatives in their work. There’s a part of all of us that really just wants to settle down, to get comfortable, to stop seeking. Almost every time, the solution is listening to and honoring your intuitive sense of not what you think you need but what your project needs to come to fruition.

There is a long history of writing about chance and synchronicity that has nothing to do with the gods meddling in our realm. In this particular book, Crispin’s instructions are simple, straightforward, and interesting, which is evident in the many positive reviews this publication has already received. She focuses on using the cards as a tool for foregrounding intuition and stealing past creative blocks – exactly what fascinates me about them (at this point). The guide helps you find exactly what you need and provides the ancient interpretations and Crispin's new modern take. It is no something learned over night and requires you to take time to learn the card and ways to read them. But for daily card draws, for creativity questions, things of that nature, it’s pretty easy to read for yourself.
