The Danes excelled at chairs. Hans Wegner and Arne Jacobsen were exemplars of the country’s facility with wood, particularly teak. Many of these were made from hand blown glass and were known as Gin Pigs. Our gin Pigs are also inspired by the two gin pigs on display at National Trust property, Brodie Castle, seeing these two large jugs caught our imagination and our design of the Gin Pig was born. rbge.org.uk Inside the Scottish National Gallery ( Getty Images) 15. The glass pig decanter is hand-made at the Angels’ Share Glass studio and has a stopper for the nose so the drink can be poured out and later refilled.Whiskey scientist Liz Rhoades commented: “With zero generations of tradition behind us, we’re only looking forward. This is the story of the next decade of Whistlepig – one that will bring new frontiers beyond rye, even bigger age statements, stupendous complexity and undoubtedly more pig hijinks. We’re erasing the boundaries of traditional whiskey making in an attempt to bring you the best of rye the best way we know how – big, bold and unapologetic.” We’re also pleased to be partnering with local distillery Stirling Gin who created the delicious gin liqueurs.”

Also new for the summer are the Angels’ Share bottle stoppers which allow you to cork your favourite bottle until you are ready for the next glass. We’ve broken ground on nine rye grain and experimental crop fields across 500 acres in Vermont, fermented yeast foraged from a ham’s hind, delivered the Great Beer Rescue, countless epic finishes, and even a whiskey-fuelled car. The gentle, organic contours that are typical of Scandinavian design appear in the furnishings and decor created by Danish, Finnish and Swedish designers not as a stylistic gesture, but rather as a practical, ergonomic — and, as importantly, elegant — response to the human form.

Each nation produced exceptional talents in all areas of the applied arts, yet each had its forté. Sweden was home to Greta Magnusson Grossman and Bruno Mathsson — creators of the classic Grasshopper lighting series and Berlin daybed, respectively — but the country excelled most notably at ceramics. In the 1920s at the great Gustavsberg porcelain manufactory, Wilhelm Kåge introduced pieces in the Scandinavian style based on influences from folklore to Cubism; his skills were passed on to his versatile and inspired pupils Berndt Friberg and Stig Lindberg. All are hand made and hand filled in our Bridge of Allan glass blowing studio and feature a cork stopper for the nose, delicate pink ears, and subtle blue eyes.

Swing by the Scottish National Gallery for some fine-art eye candy from the likes of Van Gogh, Monet, Botticelli, Raphael, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Constable and Turner, and also lesser-known, Scottish names such as Ramsay, Raeburn and Wilkie. There’s so much to see that pieces are spread across two neo-classical treasure troves: the National Gallery and the Royal Scottish Academy. The exterior Doric columns and detailing are just as dazzling. Karen Somerville, Managing Director at Bridge of Allan-based Angels’ Share Glass, said: “Our Gin Pigs have been flying off the shelves ever since we came up with the idea two years ago and we thought it would be fun to create a different summer version.Invite serveware from around the world to join your table settings. For special occasions, dress up your plates with a striking Imari charger from 19th-century Japan or incorporate Richard Ginori’s Italian porcelain plates into your dining experience. Celebrate the English ritual of afternoon tea with a Japanese tea set and an antique Victorian kettle. No matter how big or small your dining area is, there is room for the stories of many cultures and varied histories, and there are plenty of ways to add pizzazz to your meals. They are an addition to the popular Gin Pigs created by the Angels’ Share team who resurrected the Victorian tradition of showcasing gin in glass decanters shaped like pigs.

From rush-inducing Edinburgh Castle to the 19th-century New Town, Scotland’s capital has no shortage of spellbinding architecture. Forgotten among this is Craigmillar Castle: a toothy ruin, complete with a tower house, great hall and standout city views. You’ll find it three miles southeast of the city centre — it’s easy to get to by public transport, or you can book a guided tour to see it along with the city’s other hidden sights.

Today, decades after their heyday, the prolific, ever-evolving Scandinavian modernists continue to amaze and delight, and interior designers all over the world use their pieces to bring warmth to any given space.
