So it came as no surprise to find them among Decanter’s 2021 Top Classic wines of the year, a list honoring bottles that epitomize a “premium, textbook style of wine. The story of Masottina is written in the Prosecco hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, in 2019 listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, established as one of the 56 most beautiful places in Italy and one of the 1121 most spectacular places in the world. This is a classic Brut style Prosecco that is perfect for many social occasions, as a pre-dinner aperitif but can also be enjoyed with salads, light pasta dishes and seafood. Fragrant aromas of lemon curd with dried petals, bubblegum and jelly sweet notes over chalky undertones. Located in Prosecco’s Conegliano region of the Veneto, on white marne soils, lie the 60hectares of Masottina’s vineyards.

The vineyard is at home Masottina in Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOC famous and is based on the unique micro-climate grapes of the highest quality. Glera grapes are harvested at the end of September, crushed and pressed and the juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks. Masottina focuses on producing drier Prosecco in the Brut style, believing that this allows for more food-friendly and elegant wines. Releasing hints of citrus fruits: lemon, grapefruit, citrus and perceptible notes of apple, from fresh green apple to the softy sweetness of quince.Another gentleman came in asking for Progresso, which is a brand of canned soups, but by then I had adapted and realized that he was talking about Prosecco. Thanks to its balanced fruit acidity, the Calmaggiore Prosecco Spumante Brut has a soft mouthfeel without lacking freshness. The wine feels lifted and elegant, without even a gram of excess sweetness—a complete feeling of balance and harmony.

Masottina is the historic brand of the Dal Bianco family, born and bred in the hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore, declared a Unesco heritage site in 2019.You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Hailing from the hilly Conegliano Valdobbiadene region—widely recognized as the greatest terroir for Prosecco production—this wine takes its name, Contrada Granda, from the historic center of the town of Conegliano. Given the vineyard's reputation, I was expecting great things and to be honest it did not disappoint. Masottina, the third-generation winery that crafted the first-ever Prosecco to crack Wine Spectator’s Top 100 list, is without question one of the most iconic sparkling-wine producers in Italy.

The sparkling wine has a fresh nose, releasing hints of lemon, grapefruit as well as green apple and pear.Masottino Prosecco Brut is straw yellow with light green reflections with fine and persistent bubbles in your glass.

They mention that it makes a very acceptable gift, has a pleasant and fruity flavour and does well with any occasion. The finish of this sparkling wine from the Veneto wine-growing region, or more precisely from Prosecco DOC, impresses with a good aftertaste. Prosecco grape is distinguished by its aromatics of lemon and green apples, and its subtle flavours of white peaches, freshly picked flowers and notes of yeastiness. Enjoy this as you would any other Prosecco; with antipasti, prosciutto and melon, green salads or a light aglio, olio, peperoncino pasta. The Masottina vineyard is very well known for producing great wines and this is, in essence, their entry-level prosecco. Prosecco grapes for this come from the region of Veneto (Treviso), where they grow on vines about 30-80 meters high. It is the perfect accompaniment to pasta with sausage dumplings, yoghurt mousse with poppy seeds or cabbage roulades. The winery is the place where our winemaking spirit is fully expressed, vinifying grapes accurately and rapidly to keep them from oxidizing. Fresh and lively in its elegance, it reveals hints of citrus fruit whose freshness is almost fragrance.
