Using a paintbrush, carefully remove and apply the transfers of your choosing to the parts of the Space Marine you would like the images to be on. Lizzie: Contrast paints are an incredible tool for any painter. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced hobbyist, these paints are easy to use and highly versatile – allowing you to create a number of fantastic effects. Once I was done with that, however, I wasn’t satisfied. He didn’t have the ‘pop’ – so I added the blue-green shadow to accentuate the transitions of the armour. This is the airbrushing stage. After priming with Uniform Grey Color Primer from The Army Painter (any medium to light primer will work; I chose a mid-grey one as it’s a good medium colour for purple and compliments the grey texture of my bases), I basecoated the model with Purple Worm from The Army Painter’s D&D line [ Kakophoni Purple is very similar]. Then, I carefully build up a zenithal highlight with several thin coats of Corax White (this needs a good amount of airbrush thinner) sprayed at an angle from above. If you’re not familiar with a zenithal highlighting, I recommend browsing YouTube for appropriate tutorials. If you don’t have an airbrush available, you could use Alien Purple Color Primer from The Army Painter for the basecoat, and then some thin coats of Corax White spray from above. You will have much more control with an airbrush, though. Don’t forget to tune into our special Hang Out and Hobby sessions running ahead of the #WarhammerPaintathon, where our hosts will be on hand to show you just how these new colours work. Once your brown is on, take some Screamer Pink and do the wax parts of the purity seals as well as the power sword handle.

A mix of Dark Blue Grey and Turquoise was used to highlight the edges and raised areas on the end of the sword. mix of Basalt Grey and Vallejo Game Color Stonewall Grey. This was put mostly in the top half of areas and more upward facing angles. (center right)As a faction, Salamanders feature a mix of interesting elements and styles, from green armor to flame designs painted on it, heat scarring on melta weapons and flamers, heraldry, and scales and salamander pelts. I envision the forces from my Tyranid splinter fleet absorbing bio-mass, adapting themselves to the warzone and changing their colours to match the environment. To this end I opted for a very ‘naturalistic’ scheme reminiscent of many insects and arachnids in our world – namely earthy tones with a lighter underbody and darker areas on any hard plates and carapaces.

Anyway. I have seen a few different options and I can't decide what I like. I was curious as to what you all do to paint your purity seals as the combined knowledge base of r/minipainting surely must be greater than my own--which is basically none. Image examples of what you have done along with the paints you used would be awesome. If the shoulder pads on your figure are moulded on, you will want to make sure you cover the rest of your figure with some masking material – I find silly putty works best. The only time I feel alive is when I'm painting. Vincent Van Gogh

Color Charts This bonded pair of Squigs found their way into my home when I got a box of Zarbaj’s Jitz with my Adepticon swag bag last year. The two have been inseparable since I adopted them, only leaving each other’s side to maul whatever poor fool decided to get too close to their territory. My paintscheme for Zarbaj and his Jitz involves a lot of purple and yellow, so I forewent the typical reds and oranges you see Squigs come in, and went instead for a pinkish purple. I think it’s pretty fashionable.

I have had a great deal of fun experimenting with using various real-world colour schemes that can be found in nature for my Tyranids. I’ve so far attempted schemes based on the following: The great thing about this scheme is that if I need to paint a lot of models fast, as you often do with Tyranids, then they look great and ‘Battle Ready’ at just the Contrast paint stage and I can add the highlights later.
