Overall, we think that La Roche Posay moisturizers are formulated well, especially for those that are made specifically for sensitive skin. Pros After being absorbed by the skin, retinol is converted to its active form, retinoic acid. Retinoic acid works deep within the skin where it boosts collagen synthesis, increases elasticity, repairs connective tissue, and increases cell turnover. The end result is smoother, healthier skin with fewer lines and wrinkles and a more even skin tone. Soothe and comfort your skin every day with La Roche-Posay's Double Repair Face Moisturizer. Suitable for sensitive skin types, this facial moisturizer is powered by prebiotic thermal water that helps diminish dryness and free radical damage for a more youthful, healthier-looking complexion. Key Ingredients: Ceramide-3: an essential ceramide naturally found in skin. Prebiotic Thermal Water: with hydrating, soothing and antioxidant properties. Glycerin: a moisturizing agent that naturally attracts water to skin. Niacinamide: a form of vitamin B3 with soothing properties. ingredients This comforting face cream can be used by all skin types, but it’s ideal for those with allergy-prone, ultra sensitive skin. The active sunscreen ingredients in La Roche Posay Double Repair Moisturizer with SPF include avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate, and octocrylene. All of these ingredients are classified as chemical sunscreen agents, which protect the skin by first absorbing UV light, then transforming that light energy into some other form of energy, such as heat.

Toleriane Ultra Moisturizing Cream also includes emollients like squalane and shea butter, as well as the silicone dimethicone. Dimethicone gives the cream a silky texture while also functioning as a skin protectant to help reduce water loss. For example, one review says, “Said it’s oil free, but it makes my skin crazily oily. Literally does nothing but makes my skin more oily than ever. I hated it so much that I have to write a review for it.”

The four most common skin types are normal, dry, oily, and combination. Normal skin feels balanced, dry skin can get tight and flaky, oily skin can get greasy and shiny, and combination skin often gets oily in the T-zone (along the forehead and nose). Finding the right moisturizer for your skin type and lifestyle may take some trial and error, says dermatologist Gloria Lin, MD-FAAD. But the dermatologists we spoke to generally recommend heavier creams for dry skin, oil-free moisturizers for oily skin, and combination products for combination skin. While this moisturizer can be used by all skin types, those with oily skin will especially enjoy the oil-absorbing properties of silica. This ingredient also provides a silky feel and soft focus effect. Because the moisturizer contains essential oils, like lavender and tea tree oil, it has a strong smell—and we didn’t love the fragrance. Since we appreciate the emphasis on natural ingredients, we’re happy to tolerate the smell. And we suspect we might get used to it the more we wear this moisturizer. La Roche-Posay’s retinol is very comparable. It also contains vitamin B3, niacinamide, and moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin. I found the products to be very similar. Howard Epstein, Ph.D., Director of Technical Services for EMD Performance Materials, adds that the best moisturizers should include "a combination of emollients, humectants, and occlusives." Here's a breakdown of these three categories:

When testing, the lightweight moisturizer absorbed slowly, taking about five minutes to soak in. But once it did, it worked like a dream. Just 15 minutes after using the moisturizer, our skin was 25 to 44 more hydrated than at the start of the test, according to our moisture reader. And we loved the product’s glowy finish: Our skin looked brighter and felt more refreshed. CeraVe makes some great products for acne-prone skin. However, I think they are not as good as the Effaclar range by La Roche-Posay. Your preference for a foaming cleanser will determine the proper face wash. The CeraVe Hydrating cream-to-foam Cleanser may be the right choice for you. The CeraVe hydrating facial cleanser and La Roche Posay Gentle Cleanser have a gel-like consistency that doesn’t foam. For example, one review says, “I have never liked wearing sunscreen on my face because it either made me feel greasy or made me break out. But I love this stuff! I put it on every day and it soaks into my skin like my other moisturizers. I’ll definitely keep this in my daily routine.”Made for oily and acne-prone skin, the moisturizer is lightweight and fast-absorbing. And it never left behind any grease, oil, or residue. The moisturizer took a while to soak in. But once it did, our skin felt more hydrated and looked less oily. After 25 minutes of wearing the moisturizer, our face still looked shine-free—though we noticed some oiliness on the sides of our nose. While the minimal ingredient list for this moisturizer is ideal for those with sensitive skin, it’s probably not going to feel moisturizing enough if you have dry skin since there’s only one emollient in the formula. The formula includes ascorbic acid, also known as pure vitamin C, which is a potent antioxidant that protects skin from the damaging effects of free radicals. Vitamin C also helps to brighten the complexion, fade dark spots, and even reduce lines and wrinkles by stimulating new collagen production. The lotion relies on four key ingredients—shea butter, beeswax, soy proteins, and aloe vera—to hydrate your skin and seal in moisture. And it did a great job refreshing our skin. The lotion boosted moisture in our face by 24 to 40 percent, according to our moisture reader, while reducing oil by 2 to 16 percent. It also calmed the redness in our cheeks and made our skin feel smoother.

We love that the formula includes the mineral sunscreen titanium dioxide, which provides broad spectrum SPF 50 protection. And you don’t have to worry about a white cast since the formula is tinted with iron oxides. There’s also skin-soothing Neurosensine, which makes this moisturizer great for anyone with allergy-prone, ultra-sensitive skin. La Roche-Posay wins when it comes to sunscreen. Their Anthelios range offers a broader selection than CeraVe, and many of their products provide a higher level of SPF than CeraVe. For CeraVe retinol, I tried their CeraVe Skin Renewing Retinol Skin Serum and used it every day to see how will it go for my skin. As it says, it is safe for all skin types, and it has a non-comedogenic formula that will improve our skin’s texture. For me, it is a great option to reduce wrinkles and lines with soothing and moisturizing properties. La Roche-Posay’s famous thermal water is included in the La Roche Posay cleanser. This natural antioxidant soothes and protects the skin from environmental stressors. CeraVe and La Roche-Posay have night creams that target different skin types, so of course, I had to try them.
