Taste: this has gotten a lot richer in the mouth by having taken air for a long period of time; the translation of flavours from the nose is good, but those flavours were not too remarkable to begin with. Long aired, this has become quite sweet, quite citrusy, and with more noticeable fruitiness than in the nose. At first, and for at least the first year, this was a good bit more staid and ultra-restrained. I have to give this at least 2 more points than I would have for the bottle's first year Palate Having flirted, plays hard-to-get. Interplay of teasing sweetness and stony dryness. Promises of orange blossom. Honey. Anise.

seriously this whole business of marketing scotch, wine, etc, has been elevated to absurdity, and I think the real mission of reviewers such as yourself should be exposing it to the public for what it is not perpetuating it. I enjoyed the Cragganmore 12 yo without water, but could not finish it the moment I added the water. It was as if the water changed the sweetness into orange peel notes. How strange. I enjoyed the balance between the sweetness and the smoke, but this changed the moment you add some water.

Honeysweet and spicy nose. Candied fruit, nuts, apples and caramel. Sweet butter. Honey. Floral. Rosemary and heather. Breakfast cereals. Not much else. Far from bad, but rather simple. Yes those terms refer to price points. But the connotation is that ‘entry level’ is buttom shelf, the cheap stuff, and it most certainly implies that you are an amateur consumer who doesn’t know anything and as such you get and deserve the ‘entry level’ and/or you’re just cheap..lol, And the marketing departments gets to run the guilt trip on you to get you to dump more and more money on so called medium and high level products that are in fact in almost all case no better than the entry level stuff. What a great marketing stratagy, you gotta hand it to them. So far i have tried the Talisker, Dalwhinnie 15yo and glenkinchie 12 and have enjoyed them all with the talisker being the stand out so far. Now its time for the Cragganmore 12yo which is the only speyside of these tastings so a little exited. Finish: Sweet processed honey. Nice oak tannins, small bitter note. Trails off with hazelnut skins. Cragganmore range includes this 12 year old single malt and Distillers Edition. They’ve had special bottlings, such as the 14 year old for Friends of the Classic Malts. Cragganmore 12YO has been matured in second fill bourbon barrels and like mentioned, the whisky is slightly smoky. This malt is also a component for Johnnie Walker, Old Parr and White Horse blended whiskies. By The River (Spey) Palate: Very "smooth" as they say. Definitely grassy, with apple and vanilla the 2 dominant flavors. Again a light whiff of smoke to add balance. Very polite and easy going. 46%abv would really help things here in they way of flavor. The flavors here are quite nice and balanced, they're just weak.In the glass, Cragganmore has the color of white wine with the kind of rich substance that leans out of paleness and into gold. The nose is fragrant with spring meadow scents, heather, hay and wildflowers, mingled with a tinge of smoke, as if a fire were downwind. Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). The stills used in the second distillation (the spirit still) of Cragganmore whisky are unique in having a flat top and being relatively short. The stills' shape has a definite effect on the taste and aroma (nose) of the whisky. [7]

Basil Hayden Malted Rye Whiskey Assessment - Tasty Bites Journey on Old Maysville Club Rye Whiskey Review Oily on the palate. Oranges dominate, supported by sweet malt, spices, roasted nuts and hay. Vanilla steps in to replace the caramel. Mildly drying.

I kept nipping at it now and then when walking by the table and loved the almondy, honey smoothness of it that crept through the smooth burn while I kept it in my mouth before letting it slide down. NOSE: Fresh summer fruit salad drizzled with lavender honey, wildflowers with hints of cream and spices. The nose is quite sweet and delicate. Finish: Short to medium in length and with a very pleasant gentle progressive fade. A touch of cask spicing and barley malts. Taste: Good translation to the palate bringing across malty nuts and toffee alongside honey and just the slightest hint of barrel char and/or smoke. Relatively ‘chewy’ despite its 40% ABV and with a dash of damp earth and minerality which make for a welcome clean taste.Taste: Similar to the nose with the fruits but the apples dont stand out as much. Bit of spice and sweetness and a very smooth dram. All that combines for a bottle that's just spectacularly even-handed. It's got hints of everything that makes good scotches great, blended together into a wonderfully balanced mix that is likely to satisfy whatever craving brings you to a bottle of scotch.
