About this deal

For a more insightful and entertaining story, try the version written by Wilfrid Noyce, suggests Ronald Turnbull. As a climber I’m very aware of Honnold’s achievements, such as his ropeless climb of the Northwest face of Half Dome in Yosemite and his linkup of the entire Fitz Roy massif in Patagonia with Tommy Caldwell. Non-climbers, even people who aren’t outdoorsy, are aware of him, mainly from the commercials he’s appeared in, his National Geographic cover story about soloing Half Dome, and most of all, from the 60 Minutes feature that put him into the public spotlight in 2011. Honnold had been obsessed with climbing El Capitan for 9 years, nearly a third of his life, and had analyzed and practiced every aspect of the route repeatedly.

That was before I knew Tommy really well so I couldn’t ask him about it— all I could do was read all the books. Having watched the documentary Free Solo, I became interested in reading this book to learn more about Alex Honnold. In 2016, he was subjected to functional magnetic resonance imaging scans that revealed that, unlike other high sensation seekers, [24] his amygdala barely activates when watching disturbing images. I am both in awe of what has been accomplished by climbers like Honnold, Tommy Caldwell, and others, but also understand that I would never take unnecessary risks that they subject themselves to on these climbs. As the years and centuries go by, the mountains we climb get bigger, more serious, and more difficult.

There's a World of books to choose from such as: Children's Books, Range includes Baby Books (0-3), Books for Toddlers (3-5), Early Readers (5-7), Childrens Story books (7-11), Young Teens (11-14), Young Adults (14-16) and Childrens Educational Books. He doesn’t factor—in looks or words either one—as the person who has accomplished feats beyond what many could even dream possible, and all that is part of his appeal. I loved how this book went back and forth between Alex’s inner thoughts and feelings, and someone else relaying the comments from the public and the climbing community. He started climbing in a climbing gym at the age of 5 and was climbing "many times a week" by age 10. And all at once the sky darkens with a swarm of buzzwords – iconic – quantum leap – paradigm shift – plus of course the one I already deployed, the ever upward step-change.Our team keeps a close eye on Alex Honnold's latest interviews, writings, and public statements to ensure the list remains current and comprehensive. Alex says: "I actually think of this book more than I expected to when I first read it - the idea of our random extra spaces (think highway medians) being nature really sunk in. In November 2011, Honnold and Hans Florine missed setting the record time on the Nose route on Yosemite's El Capitan by 45 seconds.

Written by an accomplished fellow climber, this story of the historic rope-free climb of Yosemite's El Capitan by Alex Honnold is fascinating and full of interesting info about the technical aspects of the climb, as well as the climbing world in general.

I appreciated reading about the author's interest in the books Alex was reading when they would meet up. Alex Honnold comes closer to offering this intangible quality than any other sportsman has in any autobiography I’ve yet read.
