You never really realise how much effort you go through every morning until you have to explain it to other people. I did not realise that everything I do in the morning to refresh, clean and prepare myself for the day was, well….. so much work? Earlier this week when I decided I was going to do a morning routine post (because I have NEVER done one before…what?!!) I started to jot down everything that I do. To me, looking back at it all now, it seems like a lot of effort, to some of you it may not.
Everybody has their own set of things they like to do in the morning. Their own little regime to make them feel as great as they can and I personally love seeing what products people use and what steps they go through each day. Maybe I’m just nosey (??) but I think it’s a great way to discover some things you might want to try, that you’d not necessarily thought of yourself.
The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is typically check my phone. Have a little scroll down Instagram, Twitter and check how my latest video or blog post is doing, reply to comments and check my emails.
I guess you could say I may spend a “little” too much time doing this in the morning. I’m not exactly one of those people who can just wake up and jump out of bed, I usually have to fall back asleep once, get woken up by a second alarm and roll around under the covers for at least an hour before I actually leave the bed itself (I’m awful I know.)
After finally finding the willpower to drag myself out of bed the first thing I typically do is make myself a coffee and then wash my face or have a shower.
As anyone who knows me well will tell you, I am a monster in the morning unless I have had a cup of coffee. I don’t know what it is but I literally cannot function until I’ve drunk a hugeee coffee. (If I don’t have time to make one in the morning then I tend to pick one up from my favourite little coffee shop when I get into town.)
As for washing my face.
I have quite a repetitive morning skincare routine, meaning it’s not really something I change up unless I’ve discovered a new product or received something to try out.
Before actually washing my face the first thing I do is rinse my skin and then shave.
If you’re a man looking for some new shaving products to try, or a woman who knows someone who could do with that little extra push… Cornerstone is the way to go. Cornerstone are a subscription based shaving company that sends you selected shaving products every month. Accompanied with an engraved, personalised razor, last week I received the Pre-Shave Face Scrub, Shaving Gel and the Post-Shave Balm. I must admit before receiving these products I wasn’t exactly the type of person who’d go out and purchase shaving products. Products I’d used in the past would irritate my skin, break me out or just make my face feel very (extremely) dry and uncomfortable. Thankfully, that was not the case with the cornerstone products. If anything using them has left my skin feeling softer and more hydrated and healthy than it was before, so it’s been a win win situation for me all the way. One of my personal favourite of the Cornerstone products has got to be the Post-Shave Balm. After rinsing your face dry (using cold water to close pores) using the balm leaves your face with a very cool, refreshing feeling and I LOVE it.
As for skincare my routine has changed a little bit since my skincare favourites post. I now use the “Biore Charcoal Cleanser” as I’ve found it works really well with my skin and leaves it feeling suuper clean and not dried out or irritated at all. Then I use this little bottle of Tea Tree toner water that I picked up from Superdrug. I have previously used the “L’oreal Velvety Soft Toner”, but I have since ran out of it and have not been able to find another bottle of it anywhere in store, so I grabbed the next best thing! For moisturiser I use the Neutrogena Oil Free moisturiser, it’s the one I’ve been using for months and months now. Occasionally when I run out, depending on where I purchase it from I’ll pick up the pink grapefruit version of the moisturiser, purely because I am in love with the scent!
Once I’m all washed and have cleaned my teeth, I’ll then begin to get ready for the day ahead. On most days this means either heading out to college or work, so I’ll dress accordingly depending on where I’m going.
As you’ll know by now this almost always means throwing on a pair of black jeans, a t-shirt and a hoodie or my denim jacket and heading off out.
Whats your morning routine?
