However, as someone with a long-term medical condition who requires giving birth in a hospital and to be induced before 40 weeks, I instead was left feeling incredibly disheartened and quite often, frightened by my lack of "control". Someone I know recommended this book and I read it within a few days … I now have a totally different mindset and excited for birth.

In this review, I'd like to share the contents of this book to give an idea to those who are interested in reading it as well. The author kept to all the key points, explained them and then ensured to summarise them at the end of each chapter to tie everything together. I'm all for positive birth stories, and empowering women to believe that they can have a positive birth experience.

I also enjoyed that it explained different birth types and so even if things don't go to plan, the relaxation techniques can be put to use e.The word hypnobirthing sounds ridiculous but this book just taught me more about my body and how our bodies are made for birth. This book has kind of a fancy/ weird title, but I think a better one (and I feel like the author would agree) would be: Just breathe! Siobhan’s advice and guidance will change your mindset and enable you to navigate your birth with practical tools that ensure you feel calm and in control throughout. I haven’t given birth yet and although I’ve read this book cover to cover I know I’m not done reading it.

Expert hypnobirthing teacher and founder of The Positive Birth Company Siobhan Miller has made it her mission to change the way we approach and experience birth.However, it was a bit too ‘zen’ for my liking, and not portraying a good light on all medical staff that have years of experience and know what they’re doing. I loved this book, it's so informative, empowering and just makes you feel so much more relaxed about labour – I am actually looking forward to it now and can't wait to experience this special day.

It primes men to feel like useless spectators, and more importantly it primes women to fear giving birth.Siobhan Miller very convincingly argues that this view of childbirth, which we all (men included) soak in from an early age through TV shows and films, gives us a warped idea of childbirth. Information like birth shouldn't be painful in the majority of cases, that Hollywood depictions are dramatic and wrong can be good for mindset but there are parts where, although she doesn't recommend anything outright, strongly suggesting not to induce because the risk of stillborn going for 4/10000 to 6/10000 is still as small risk and it doesn't matter "how a baby makes it into the world as much as how you feel about bringing the baby into the world" presupposes a successful outcome that would result in more dead babies if applied as a policy to everyone giving birth.
