Description

NOT DEAD YET is the eighth in the series of Detective Superintendent Roy Grace novels by Peter James and follows on from the events of DEAD MAN'S GRIP for Roy Grace and his team. So once again, I feel as though it’s actually something wrong with me as a reader that led to me not enjoying this, rather than Peter James’ fault as an author.

I cannot read these books quick enough and the characters that Peter James brings to the reader are extremely relatable, loveable and are one huge family that devote their lives to protecting the Brighton area. In opting for multiple characters and perspectives, we don’t always see things from Grace’s point of view and his is not the controlling intelligence trying to fit the pieces together. One of the villains of the story plans to kill Gaia and a few other famous actors by making the Dragon Chandelier collapse onto them during the filming of a crucial scene in the Banqueting Room. The eighth novel featuring Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, from number one bestselling author Peter James. If you fail to comply with this obligation, we may have a right of action against you for compensation. Grace finds himself attempting to move on with his life as that milestone is fast approaching whilst juggling his career and trying to solve the latest crime that has taken place in the city.

Curator David Barry, a ‘tall, elegant man in his fifties, in a chalk-striped suit’ is a thinly disguised David Beevers, the Keeper of the Royal Pavilion; ‘resident historian’ Louise Hulme, an ‘academic looking woman, with long fair hair clipped back’, is our guide Louise Hume, whose character rightfully challenges the director of the Hollywood movie on issues of historical accuracy. The Chalke History Festival announces a new name, new look, and tons for history buffs to get their teeth into! One might say James gives one a lot to consider and sometimes you may feel like you need a scorecard to keep track of all the players. To begin with, I felt like Not Dead Yet might not be the book for me - I was wondering how much I'd believe, let alone like, the Hollywood-style events; it felt somewhat impossible to me that they could be intertwined nicely with the hard-hitting police thriller that I have grown to love.
