About this deal

I'm going to need a huge redemption arc in the second book because even after their internal revelations, they were still quick to anger. It led to Bea displaying a narrative that had us going back and forth, transporting us between the past and present. there’s also this whole plot about her voice and she’s mute for majority of the book but all a sudden at the end it’s revealed she can talk and she learned to do it during her time w her trio friends and the main guys are upset bc they literally bullied her so hard hoping she’ll talk but also like omg she can talk we can have hot kinky sex now which they didn’t do ik so sad. If you're going to read this, I suggest reading the Dancer and the masks first but if not after so you'll understand the connection between all of them.

Cyn's secrets are finally out in the open, the Deana-Dhe have to go to war, and the fireworks are going to go off with some reunions. No, Bea gives us the pain and the heartache and then brings the reader full circle and gives the reader the insight to these human monsters. Particularly when it came to the mystic element that was included, considering the part it played with having connections to Cyn and Arden due to the special gifts they possessed. The heavy emphasis on the past keeps progress in the present more slow, and we’re lighter all the answers and have a slower burn, which only means we’re in for a jaw dropping conclusion to the duet. The Deana-Dhe was portrayed as quite the mystery in TDATM and now we get to read about the history behind their personas.

some reason the main girl is into the bullying like it’s her kink or whatever so while they torment her they also be making out and shit i’m just so confused. She really takes the time to delve into her characters, in to this shared world so many are interconnected with. I do have to admit that the current versions of Arden, Lorcan and Carrick seemed much tamer versions than what we got to see of their teenage years.

Another thing I like about this series and the world that Bea has created is that it's contemporary with a touch of paranormal/magic which I never see! Childhood trauma, selective mutism, and a lonely, loveless existence are made worse by her father's idea of tough love. The mysterious trio have been present in a lot of Bea Paige's stories and to finally get into their heads has been incredible. Those glimpses into the past were really raw and messed up at times that I can see why all the reviews mention that this is a darker romance story. This story almost feels like a fairy tale – a mute girl with a tragic past, and 3 criminal guys with fearsome reputations who bring her to their remote home and give her a task.

The first book in the duet is written from multiple POVs and is split between chapters in the past and present. The showcasing of very distinct personalities between each of the Deana-Dhe had been executed well by Bea.Some of the things they did to Cyn were downright awful but there were also so many sweet moments too mixed in. They've brought her to their home (they live on their own island in a spooky old monastery) to make Diamonds for them (a special drug). But they all waffle between that connection being cathartic or a threat- a delicate, fragile, and chaotic back and forth. She makes me feel so much emotion while I read and I love that she consistently prioritizes her characters making emotional progress before any spice comes along, it makes the spicy scenes feel so much more significant and intimate and unsurprisingly I loved it in this book too!
