I found it endearing that my Afro-Caribbean-Chinese-Italian daughter living in England can see herself in the story. At times it was unpleasant, especially if my hair was sometimes snagged while combing out tangled areas.

She has served on Newbery, written for Horn Book, and has done other lovely little things that she'd love to tell you about but that she's sure you'd find more interesting to hear of in person.I highly recommend this book in kindergarten classrooms to engage students in powerful conversations about what they love about themselves.
