Big birthday, special anniversary, new job celebration, a family get together or an evening with friends - there’s always a good time to pop open a bottle of bubbly, isn’t there? (I will need to run this one by compliance) Sometimes, you don’t even need a reason at all! Uncork it carefully, listen to that glorious pop and fizz, pour into flutes, and raise a toast before taking that first, gorgeous sip. Fan-bubbly-tastic! There are 3 major Moscato wine types: sparkling Moscato d’asti, still Moscato, and dessert Moscato. Which is the best depends on the pairings and when you’re drinking it. This is another one that had me really curious… what would Barefoot do with a Sparkling Moscato, I wondered. And then, when I saw that the alcohol level is only 8.5%, I was scared that it was going to be overwhelmingly sweet. But I was pleasantly surprised.

Moscato is a sweeter style, white or rosé wine with a low alcohol content that pairs very well with desserts and appetizers. Moscatos are made from the Muscat grape, a table grape also used for raisins, and typically feature the sweeter flavours of peach, orange blossom and nectarine. The Brut Cuvée is what most people expect when they have champagne or sparkling wine. In fact, most sparkling wine that’s produced is in the Brut style. Technically, Brut refers to the amount of sugar added after secondary fermentation and is an indicator of sweetness. Brut is relatively dry. A still Moscato is made from Muscat Blanc or Moscatel grapes with an alcohol content higher than most Moscatos. Barefoot’s Moscato and Pink Moscato are examples of still Moscato wines. You may notice that Barefoot Bubbly is labeled as “Champagne,” and you may wonder, “Can they do that, I thought Champagne could only come from France?” Yes, it’s true that the term “Champagne” is legally reserved for wines from the Champagne region of France. But, many US-made sparkling wines were using the term before the decision was made to no longer use it on US-made wines. Those wines labeled as “Champagne” before 2006 were “grandfathered” in to allow them to continue using that descriptor as long as the region of production is also on the label (e.g. California). Take our very beginnings in 1965, when California winemaker Davis Bynum first created Barefoot Bynum Burgundy in his garage. The unconventional name referred to – what else? – the free-spirited method of crushing grapes barefoot.Sparkling Moscato is made from Muscat Blanc grapes. This style is originally from the province of Asti, Italy, so naturally it’s called Moscato d’Asti. This sweet frizzante bubbly wine has high aromatics and light or low alcohol level. The terms “pink,” blush,” and “rosé” all describe wines that are neither red nor white. Each term is interchangeable, especially for sweet wines such as zinfandel, white merlot, and even pink Moscatos. Decades later, we’ve been part of thousands of non-profit events with the help of Barefooters around the globe. So, how does Moscato get its fizzy texture? Unlike most wines, Moscato is bottled with a bit of carbon dioxide to produce some of the bubbles. The carbon dioxide helps to ensure not all of the sugar converts to alcohol, giving it the sweet flavour. I tried and tried to pull something out of this, but the nose is virtually non-existent in this wine, except for a very, very slight peach aroma. The palate is also light. It’s mildly sweet, with soft peach and strawberry flavors. The finish is crisp, tangy and enjoyable, although rather short. If you like sweet, light sparklers, it’s an enjoyable wine, but as I said, the intensity is subtle. There’s nothing extraordinary about it, but it’s good.

As diverse as the wines in our collection, Barefooters all have this in common: they celebrate the fun, cherish the quirky, and love locally. What makes our Barefoot hearts flutter?Expressing GraTOEtudeevery chance we get. This is where we start to get into the unique stuff from Barefoot Bubbly. It’s not every day that I come across a bubbly Pinot Grigio, so I was really curious to taste this one.If you’re looking for the best Moscato and cheese pairing, then you want to go with creamier cheeses. Be sure to avoid sharp flavours because they could overpower the Moscato. At Barefoot, we think that wine is that bit more fun with a touch of fizz and sparkle - and our bubbly will set any evening off in style! It shows floral and mineral notes on the nose. There are not many bubbles in the glass, but it bubbles up in your mouth quite a bit. The palate doesn’t offer much complexity, but it’s still enjoyable with tasty apple flavors and decent acidity. It’s slightly yeasty on the finish.

Come and join the Barefoot family - with over ten different types of wines and flavours available, we’ve got a tipple to suit all tastes! Our tasty and tempting range of wine covers white, red and pink. Plus, if you’re feeling in the mood for a touch of fizz and sparkle, we’ve got a delicious bubbly too in the shape of our Barefoot Bubbly Pink Moscato.
