This is probably my least favourite Peter James book so far. In saying that it is still a good read, though I wasn't "gripped" by it as I have been by the others in the series. In 2017, James wrote the foreword for the UK edition of The Crime Book, with American crime author Cathy Scott writing the foreword for the US edition. [5] The nonfiction book, a volume in the Big Ideas Simply Explained series, was released by Dorling Kindersley ( Penguin Random House) in April 2017 in the UK and May 2017 in the US.I think the Roy Grace series is very enjoyable to read, the books are easy to read and interesting. What I find fascinating about this series is that Roy Grace's first wife Sandy disappeared several years ago. Roy is now remarried and has a young son. But he is still brooding over what happened with Sandy and in this book he might finally get the answer to the riddle. I have done nothing but think about this book ever since I finished it some two weeks ago. I have had a change of heart about Roy Grace, I now believe that the behaviour he exhibited was motivated by a desire to protect his wife, who was then in an emotionally fragile state. In his place, I am not sure I would have done anything different. I have upgraded my rating to 3 1/2 stars. I can’t not mention the fact that there are developments in the story of Sandy; Roy’s first wife who has been missing for 10 years and is now presumed dead with Roy now happily remarried to Cleo and the proud father of baby Noah. I can’t help feeling a little niggle of disappointment about how this was left at the end of this book and that little niggle is all to do with Roy’s behaviour. and Norman is trying to cope with the grief of losing his fiancé Bella by working all the hours that god sends.

The book does finish on a bit of a cliffhanger, so is not the read for you if you prefer everything to be wrapped up in neat parcels. His interests include criminology, religion, science and the paranormal, as well as food and wine. He has written many restaurant columns. He is also a self-confessed "petrol head," having owned many fast cars over the years, including four Aston Martins, AMG and Brabus Mercedes, a Bentley Continental GT Speed and two classic Jaguar E-Types. He holds an international racing licence, and has in the past competed in the Britcar series in both a Honda Accord and a former British Touring Car Championship SEAT Toledo. His 1965 BMW 1800 Ti, with his co-driver Steve Soper, came 10th overall in the St Mary's Trophy in the Goodwood Revival in 2013. James currently races a 1962 C1 Corvette and a 1964 Mini Cooper S. He has donated two police cars to Sussex Police, which bear his name, and a police car to States of Jersey Police. The 11th Roy Grace novel is a very good, intriguing and gripping read for the most part. On one night a young woman is abducted and at the same time a decades old skeleton is unearthed. Is Roy correct in his hunches that the abduction and unearthed skeleton are linked? A lot of old faces are here in this tense read which really kept my interest to the end, wanting to know how it would all work out. My heart just went out to poor Norman, grieving for his fiancé Bella and working as hard as possible to try and keep himself busy. However, I have to say that I did realise who the culprit was pretty much as soon as he appeared and even what was going on behind the scenes, so to speak. If you read the book you will realise what I mean by that cryptic comment. On balance I would have liked to have been kept in the dark a bit longer and with an alternative suspect or two to keep my mind working.
