About this deal

Other ‘wireless’ thermometers are only wireless from the transmitter to the receiver so that you can monitor remotely. There is still a wire from the probe to the transmitter. Wide Temperature Range: Monitor your grill dome temperatures in the range of 30-400ºC and food temperatures from 0-300ºC (no direct heat). Achieve perfect results every time with precise temperature control. The options are a remote device that connects to the probe, or an app that connects to the thermometer and sends information to your phone. While an app is convenient—and eliminates the need to keep your eye on an additional device while grilling—there’s also the risk of your phone dropping a Bluetooth or wireless connection. If you regularly find apps or Bluetooth-enabled devices frustrating, a wireless thermometer with an included transmitter might spare you some stress while cooking. Some advanced wireless thermometers (like the MEATER) allow the charging box to be used as a signal repeater, nearly doubling the wireless range, though it’s not always as strong as a direct signal. While the Weber brand is almost untouchable in barbecue circles, they still need to prove themselves in their foray into tech. It’s essential to choose a thermometer with a well-designed and user-friendly app. A good app should be easy to navigate and provide accurate temperature readings.

Rechargeable thermometers may be more convenient. But it’s important to make sure they have a long battery life. You don’t want to worry about recharging them after every use. The bright red GrillEye is the octopus of grilling thermometers enabling you to plug in six probes to monitor different meats cooking in the same smoker or grill. The temperatures display in a dark, round window on the front and there are three probe ports on each side.

More From Thermometers

The control unit is able to measure temperatures from -94 °F to 752 °F (-70 °C to 400 °C), which more than covers the upper and lower temperatures that the probes can work to. Signals uses commercial-grade Pro-Series temperature probes to deliver better accuracy, faster response, wider temperature ranges and longer useful life. Cook more at once and worry less about the results with Signals. The standard unit ships with two pro meat probes and it has the capacity to add up to four at once. You can buy additional probes off Amaozn. Thermoworks, the makers of the incredibly popular instant-read Thermapen thermometer, also have a very popular grilling thermometer that can handle multiple types of meat, plus air temperature, all at the same time. It’s great for the grill, the smoker, and the oven, so it will get plenty of use all year long—a factor that can help justify the higher price tag. It performed well in testing and had one of the more standout and easy-to-use designs.

It’s hard to know exactly what range you will get. While the iGrill 2claims up to 150 feet of range, this can drop way down to 10 feet depending on a range of factors. Now, the Fireboard 2 is not cheap! But if you are serious about your BBQ, you should consider adding this excellent bit of kit. Four probes (or more) will equip you for a number of tasks, according to Carey Bringle, owner and pitmaster of Peg Leg Porker Brands in Nashville. With his penchant for whole hog barbecue, he uses one to monitor his pit temperature and the other three in the pig's shoulder, loin, and ham, respectively. This amount of probes may appear to be more than you need on the surface, but consider cooking steaks to three different temperatures of doneness, and you may see a need for more probes. Whatever your requirements, a minimum of one probe for your food and one for the grill is a reasonable point of entry, as the external thermometer on the lid of your grill loses accuracy, and few people take the time to recalibrate them. You can also look for a clip on your grill probe that keeps the probe elevated off the grate for a more accurate reading, according to Bringle. Inkbird is one of the original Bluetooth devices we had the pleasure of testing when we conducted our first roundup and testing of these devices in 2017. At that time, the Inkbird IBT-4XS performed well enough to secure our second place ranking, and here, the IBT-6XS with its new design and added capabilities did it again. This is a product that comes very well equipped right out of the box.

A good mobile app can make your thermometer easier to use and more convenient. It’s worth taking the time to research and choose a thermometer with a reliable app. Battery LifeAdditionally, consider whether the thermometer has a low battery indicator. This is helpful for knowing when it’s time to replace or recharge the batteries.
