About this deal

Crowley joins forces with Aziraphale to hide Gabriel from the minions of both heaven and hell. But in episode 5 of the fantasy series, a large gang of demons led by Shax (Miranda Richardson) has descended on the bookshop, trying to get in and get to Gabriel. More members of the Good Omens season 2 cast– Maggie (Maggie Service) and Nina (Nina Sosanya) – are also in the bookshop, which was hosting a Jane Austen style ball. Once everything turns hellish, they help Aziraphale keep the demons at bay. Then we were going up to Glasgow, mum and I, and we were passing a shop window full of TVs, and so I tried this new gift for messing up TV screens on them, and hummed away to myself, and all the screens went wild! And I was thinking Great, I really can do magic! The effect is getting stronger! I could appear on TV and do this! Maybe it would make everybody’s screens go weird!’

If you were in your car when you saw a crow, this can have a particular meaning. And it’s more likely to be significant if the crow actually landed on your vehicle. In the city of Ankh-Morpork the Seamstresses Guild happens to be the guild of sex workers. This leads to a fair amount of confusion for City Watch Commander Sam Vimes when he eventually meets a woman named Sandra, who actually is a seamstress within the guild—she winds up being helpful for the men who get (understandably) confused about the name, and do, in fact, turn up to have their shirts mended for a fee. In Episode 2’s minisode ‘A Companion to Owls’, Job is played by David Tennant’s father-in-law Peter Davison (best known as the Fifth Doctor from Doctor Who, in which Tennant of course plays the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctors) and Job’s son Ennon is played by Ty Tennant, Davison’s real-life grandson and David Tennant’s son (seen in 2022 playing Young Aegon Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon). The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald, a Jazz Age novel about class prejudice, wealth and poverty, and doomed love. Opening line: “In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since”. In episode six, when Gabriel and Beelzebub meet in the pub The Resurrectionists, the TV is playing the film The Spirit of St Louis, a film about Charles Lindbergh’s solo flight across the Atlantic in which Lindbergh is saved when he is woken by a fly.

Good Omens season 2 ending explained

The third family which rounds up the dramatis personnae is the Watt family. Lachly Watt, childhood friend of Fergus and Rory; his niece Ashley and nephews Darren and Dean (Darren, too, like so many in this novel, deceased at the beginning from an accident). There is a strong undercurrent of companionship between Ashley and Prentice which could mutate into love - if he lets go of his mooning for Verity.

It has the most catchy of openings: "It was the day my grandmother exploded." It's an opening that appears regularly in lists of "best opening lines" and rightly so; it's intriguing, messy and one of the best hooks I can remember reading. No matter how uncomfortable this could be in the moment, the benefits to your longer-term wellbeing will be far greater. 7. Crow Feathers On his way to Edinburgh in episode three, Aziraphale plays Glenn Miller’s ‘Moonlight Serenade’ in the Bentley. This piece featured in Doctor Who’s World War Two-set two-parter, ‘ The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances’ (a story which significantly set up the Doctor as a character with possible romantic interests and implied that he was not, as many fans had thought for some years at the time, asexual), as well as ‘Revelation of the Daleks’. For season two there is no more book to dramatise, so the makers are free to play to series one’s strengths. Good Omens 2 is more the Tennant and Sheen Show than ever. If it’s not sure what else it is, perhaps that doesn’t matter. And Banks just doesn’t seem to stop with his somber yet somehow hilarious prose, drawing us deeply into the McHoan family, and allowing us to explore their histories, their personalities, and their reprehensible yet utterly relatable behaviours. In the magic shop in episode four’s minisode, David Tennant as Crowley plays with a fez; this was a frequent tic of his successor as the Doctor, Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor, who liked to proclaim that “fezzes are cool”. The linking present-day narrative is that the archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) has appeared on Earth and presented himself at the bookshop that serves as Aziraphale’s terrestrial cover story, but in the form of an amnesiac human who has no idea why he is there. The problem is, nor do we: the significance and mechanics of the story remain unclear as Hamm, previously one of the strongest supporting characters, now has to do his best with a basic affable-ignoramus role. Or was the meeting surprising in some way? Perhaps a crow appeared just outside your window. And perhaps you live in an apartment on the 26 th floor, in the middle of the city! Bank’s characters are so well depicted that they feel like living, breathing people. He nails the family relationships, love hand in hand with bitter jealousy and frustration, and gives us these people as ours to love.
