Holding Tara’s coat, I said “You’re welcome. And what about your boots? Do they need any cleaning after this morning’s rain?”

I was mortified to think that even Tara’s parents knew about me cleaning her boots. I didn’t ask how much detail Tara had gone into with her parents, or whether she told them about me getting her coffee and lunches, and getting her shoes repaired.Tara said good morning, then said “The carpark was terribly wet this morning. There were puddles everywhere. I think my boots got a bit wet...”, Tara tried to look reluctant then said “Uhhh... I don’t suppose you could wipe them dry before I start work?”

Tara thought about it for a few seconds before saying “No that won’t work. I’ll need it at lunchtime. It’s freezing outside today.” This seemed to be what everyone was thinking. They pretty much all had come to the same conclusion: I was making Tara’s coffees, and getting her lunch, and cleaning her boots, in the hope of hooking up with Tara. After all, Andrew had wanted to hook up with Tara, so it seemed logical that I had the same intention. When Helen came out of Brian’s office, she wouldn’t even look at me. She was giving me the freeze. The silent treatment.Later, Helen was at my desk talking to me, when Tara walked in and placed her coffee mug on my desk, saying “Thanks”. I assumed this would be about the incident at reception today, and maybe might even drag up last weeks incident involving me, Tara and Helen. I was actually a bit worried about it. I got Tara’s morning and afternoon coffees, and of course she left the empty mug on my desk for cleaning. Brian went on to suggest various other ideas, and encouraged me to come up with something we could all do as a group. I said I’d need to think about it, but Brian kept churning out ideas, including: paintball (!?), orienteering, white water rafting, bungee jumping, skydiving, as well as a host of more pedestrian activities. He seems pretty keen on organising something, so this could be interesting (if I’m still working there, that is).
