LEGO Icons 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell review

They all look incredibly good, reminiscent of their 2012/2013 versions with the exception of Legolas who reuses young Han Solo’s head, and doesn’t quite look like Orlando Bloom. Aragorn, and Boromir are pretty good albeit sporting slightly identical facial hair. The line work on the characters is all of a finer gauge and relatively simplified compared to a decade ago. In the meantime, the increased use of gold and silver metallic inks increases the detail, particularly amongst the elven folk. The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author. Box and Contents Go look at prices and similar piece counts/elements/licensed/etc. from past Lego sets and use an inflation calculator. Lego here did the right thing and made it a fair price. " I think the size of this set is alright, but for this price point I expect a full building rather than half of it. This set looks like a glorified version of 80044 that is almost five times more expensive."

LEGO 10316 Icons The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell, Large

Aragorn has had a complete refresh compared with the 2012 version. This is fair because while he was in his more formal clothes while staying in Rivendell, the sets from the first wave had him exploring the more remote environments as a range. In Rivendell he has a dark brown torso along with nougat arms, and dark brown legs. He has torso and leg printing detailing his tunic and belt, with hints of the shirt underneath. hmmmmm...... this set is..... not an usual LEGO set.... this is an artwork! never seen so many fanstic details, the floor, the tower with all those gray minifigures, the ROOF!!!!!! and most of all - the pavillon! In regards to the weapons, you have Boromir's sword, Gimli's axe, the ranger sword, sting, and the elven blades. No Glamdring, but I suppose that could be easily represented by the current long sword element. Are they missing any other key weapons besides a reforged Anduril? I can't think of any. The only other thing might be Uruk-hai shields since the swords are still in production. I suppose since they put 16 of the weapons in one bag, it won't show up in smaller sets. Hopefully they do a similar but smaller assortment for smaller sets."Not having a fully re-forged Anduril as well as the hilt shard of Narsil (as cool as it genuinely is!) also feels like a miss in a set this expensive. Admittedly that’s more for the books than the movies at this point in the story but we can only hope that the fully restored version of this sword appears in LotR sets yet to come… and the same for Gandalf’s Glamdring. Frodo arrives in Rivendell after being stabbed at Weathertop, so appears appropriately stunned from the wound. However, perhaps a concerned face would have been better for the Council of Elrond, with this design kept for possible future sets. Bilbo's other expression looks outstanding though, recreating the memorable 'scary Bilbo' moment from the film and showing the continued influence of the Ring! On the more critical side, the price point really brings the premium incurred by a licensed set into stark reality when compared to something like 10305 ."
