I do remember seeing an infographic or something that mentioned older people are more likely to sit and read a book, but it seems a lot of book bloggers are really young. Which is also why I don’t actually request or accept too many books, because some end up being a bit harder to get into than expected, or ended up being tomes instead of novels that end up backing me up more than I like.

The others giggled and I swung my eyes away, shivering the words out of me one by one as I counted the twists of ivy repeated in the pattern of the curtain hanging across our back bedroom door. Denise Massar is an essayist and memoirist, writing about motherhood, adoption, relationships, racism, and anything else she can’t stop thinking about. The guilt of religion to force a woman to give up their child to then hide that child's existence is purely disgusting.Even if I struggle with it, the fact that I agreed and wanted to read it makes me feel like I should put in as much effort as I can humanly muster. The last thing I remember is some lady and guy (I suppose it must have been Claire and her husband because it was still very early on in the book) tumbling down some hill. Monica Allan's legal victory set a precedent and has opened the floodgates for others to claim in her wake.

All of the abuse, coupled with not knowing who her father is for her entire childhood did an immense amount of damage. Illustrated with 180 photographs, Abandoned Ireland provides a fascinating pictorial exploration of the little-known corners of this enchanting land. From the relics of the Cold War to monuments of industrial decline, this is a captivating pictorial study of man-made landscapes frozen in time. The adventures that unfolded, reminiscent of The Wind in the Willows and Peter Pan, captured me so thoroughly I knew writing was part of my destiny. Gold rush towns abandoned when new boomtowns emerge elsewhere or the gold has run out, towns deserted when caught in war zones, settlements evacuated due to natural disasters or chemical spills – seeing a town with devoid of people is an uncanny feeling.

But ten days after I was born she had to go back to Ireland, and left me there for Mummy to look after. She carried her dark secrets around with her for 40 years until in 2010, haunted by her trauma, she finally decided to seek justice.

It’s been a little while since I’ve picked up a childhood abuse genre and it’s my first review of this kind. ABANDONED is Anya's harrowing account of her ruined childhood and the inspirational story of how she painfully began to piece her life back together. Author Anne Kim skillfully weaves heart-rending stories of young people navigating early adulthood alone, in communities where poverty is endemic and opportunities almost nonexistent. I never understood why Kathy wouldn’t tell my uncle who my father was, and, as a child, I never forgave her for it. She walked up the dark stairwell to the second floor landing and knocked on the red front door, half hoping her sister didn’t live there.Kathy lived at home with her and Mummy’s parents in Ireland, but I was born in England, on one of the beds in the long back bedroom in Mummy’s flat. To read horrible tales of fiction never bothers me for a very long time as I know that may not have happened to real people, but reading a memoir like this is a stressing affair as I have a habbit of immersing myself completely into a book, I get attached to the characters very easily and a book like this gets me into a saddening mode. This is one of Gallico's best works, making a perfect companion to his more famous Thomasina and telling of a boy transposed into the body of a cat by accident. There you go, how I distinguish between books I need to abandon and books that…I just didn’t finish because I forgot. I was fascinated by her: by her beauty and calmness and easy laughter, by her soft Irish accent and her gentleness with me. She runs through us all in her head, tapping out numbers against her palm, then slides that number of plates along the counter from the stack she has taken from the shelf. her mom was having an affair with a married man and got pregnant, she ended up having to give her child to her sister to take care of,since she didn't want people to know and reputation to be ruined, her sister which just had an illegitimate baby with a drunk man she claimed to love. photographs of more than 100 once-busy and often elegant buildings gives an eerie idea of how the world might look if humankind disappeared.
