They may also be used to limit the number of times you see an advertisement and measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. Each chapter galloped by at a fast pace, the dialogue and characters were faultless and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. He messed us up with “Them” and then fucked us up with this tale of home invasion going just about as wrong as humanly possible. Books are obviously allowed to be “just for fun” and don’t always have to have something to say, but that’s just what I prefer to read. This is a home invasion extreme horror focusing on one question- how far is this mom willing to go for her child?

Broken Dolls is the first in the series of novels featuring investigator Jefferson Winter, a troubled man forever trying to escape from his troubled past . I had to keep reading just another page, another page, as everything raced towards a high tension ending. I don't expect literary masterpieces when it comes to a genre known for its shocking gore and disturbing plots, but I do think this was a personal work that was published and possibly fetish material.I have a feeling we will be hearing more about the survivors of this, and I would be excited to see how that will play out. Not so that you can take a year off, relaxing from all the dead ends you went down while pursuing a vague and intangible wholeness missing from your daily existence.

When I say repeatedly, that's certainly how it felt, almost like a ‘setup another ideal victim scenario’. So, I put it to one side, took a hell of a deep breath, and an hour later I came back to it and finished it and I'm glad I did! The pace of the book is fast and furious and the plot twisty enough and with sufficient surprises to keep the reader hooked from page to page. Where she has to watch her innocence being taken from her, in the most humiliating and heartbreaking ways!

I would hesitate to say I enjoyed the book, given the harrowing subject matter, but it definitely held my interest and was a compulsive read and I would definitely look for more by this author. Putting myself first” doesn’t necessarily mean having more of the external trappings of life and more fun and friends and adventure, though it might be some of that.

If you like good detective work or even more love the idea of profiling then try this series out and it starts with this book. An eccentric genius and self-described geek with a passion for Mozart, he is haunted by the legacy of his notorious serial killer father . The antagonist in Broken Dolls is a clever take on the serial killer and a refreshing change to some of the by-the-numbers stuff being churned out. I really enjoyed this book and loved the parts when I wondered if Jefferson and the Police were simply getting it wrong and barking up the wrong tree.I think he has a very strong future as an extreme horror author, it's just that this book didn't fit my preferences as much as his debut. A crazed serial killer, an eccentric FBI investigator,a tough female cop - all the ingredients here blend to make a brilliant police procedural. At one stage I was so irritated with Winter for enjoying a hearty breakfast instead of being out there finding the evil psycho. shock, horrify, unnerve, appal, sicken and disgust you, but also there's an underlying tale of a mothers love and a daughter's betrayal. The first in James Carol's thrilling Jefferson Winter series, Broken Dolls offers rapid-fire suspense and a chilling look into the mind of a criminal - and into the mind of the one man who might be able to catch him.

No rules against self-promotion, so all authors, publishers and content creators are welcome to share their work here. Carol has been economical with the supporting cast to ensure that those who appear are memorable and there for a purpose without overloading us with extras.Wenn du das Abo nicht fortsetzen möchtest, kannst du es vor Ende des Testzeitraums jederzeit kündigen. I love finding new authors with a back catalogue to explore and would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys dark, pacy crime novels. Big “Funny Games” vibes, (hence the epigraph) “No One Rides for Free” vibes, and “The Strangers” as well. The pace begins to really get traction in the latter half of the book and I was hardly breathing reading the last few chapters, yelling at the book, telling the characters what to do, you know those type of books?
