The abbey and the brewery both closed down during the French Revolution and the abbey reopened its doors without the brewery in 1929. Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. Later, the right to produce beer under the brand name "Leffe" purchased by the famous Belgian brewer Interbrew, which in 2004 merged with the company AmBev, forming a holding company "InBev". A bit more bold or “bodied” than you might think from its color and smell: This isn’t a light sipper for a hot summer day.

After the French Revolution in 1794 the church and its possessions were confiscated, and the monks left the abbey. The abbey that first produced Leffe, Notre-Dame de Leffe, was founded in 1152 and has a long and rich history. In 1952 abbot Nys and Albert Lootvoet decided to once again take up the brewing tradition of Leffe with its well-guarded recipe and offer a range of delicious Leffe beers.

All these different beers appeal to the imagination and are all available here at the Belgian Beer Factory. In the meantime, AB-InBev has taken up the torch and has made a commitment to honour the tradition of the Leffe beer, which has been brewed according to the same recipe since 1240. Beer "Leffe" began to brew in the XII century, the monks of the abbey Notre Dame de Leffe, located in the south of the Belgian province of Namur, near the town of Dinan. Everything is smooth and tasty, the only thing that could have been less sweets, but this is a subjective whim. Pilgrims were always welcome at Leffe and in 1420 the canons decided to build a brewery for the preparation of a healthy, invigorating beverage (diseases like the plague ran rampant through the region at that time, and the boiling of water during the top fermentation process of the Leffe beer killed all germs).

Little story about how I discover this beer, near my place at Louvain-la-Neuve, there is an event twice a year which lasts for a week where you can try all the Leffe ! RateBeer free membership enables you to find nearby gems and remember your favorites, and only takes a few moments. Beer at that time was a much healthier alternative to drinking water, which was often full of diseases. And my local has just started selling it which is good as we are only a stone’s throw from the brewery.Golden amber hue, a very thin white head that dissipated quickly, I detect yeast scents, some sweet spice and floral scents, and, especially, that honeyed sweetness. Development of the recipe dates back to the XII century and belongs to the monks of the Abbey of Notre Dame de Leffe. Today beer under the brand name "Leffe" brewed for Anheuser-Busch InBev Stella Artois factory in the Belgian city of Leuven.
