I’m finding it so hard to find the right words for this review as it was just a truly stunning, beautifully written, heartwarming, heart-wrenching, amazing and perfect beyond measure. Polly Crosby tells ReadingZone about her novel, This Tale is Forbidden (Scholastic), a fractured fairy tale set in a dystopian world.

The disgust and judgement piled onto her from relatives and acquaintances made me empathise with anyone who actually had to go through something like this back in the day. Jacqueline has not stopped making tweens cry since i stopped reading her books which means she is at least consistant. What follows is a well-paced, emotional and intermittently heartwarming journey, one which will teach the value of families and friendships look like, the importance of consent and a good sex education. A trip to the local swimming pool begins with trepidation as Nina wears a bikini and a European holiday tan, and Laura squeezes into her old bathing suit with an anchor on her flat chest. Aspirations to keep up with a wealthy friend are agonizing, and result in a huge mistake that she doesn't even realise she's making.Ultimately, Jacqueline Wilson is and always has been a gem and smashing through this was just what I needed. Anche questo libro non fa eccezione: si tratta della storia di una gravidanza di una ragazzina di 14 anni, in seguito a violenza, che viene quindi portata in una struttura per ragazze madri.

I also suspected that some of the language and sensitive topics that are addressed in the old books would also be a bit dated. This book is aimed at older readers than Jacqueline Wilson’s usual target audience so do beat that in mind. In the last year I've found a love for YA books and I hope this year I will rekindle my love for more of Wilson's work. When Nina starts waving at some boys on the diving boards, Laura is horrified, but does her best to look sixteen like Nina is trying to pull off. Candy Gourlay introduces Wild Song, her companion novel to Bone Talk, in which Luki and Samkad leave their home in the Philippines for America.

I found the time Laura spent in the house of expectant mothers okay, it felt a bit like reading about boarding school but also dealing with the realities of parents who had shamed them and boys who had let them down. I can’t understand how JW can completely understand teenage anxiety and make her characters come to life in such a fluid way. Nina has two brothers, Little Richard (nicknamed after the singer) and older brother Daniel, who is always kind and friendly. Ross Welford introduces Time Travelling with a Tortoise, the sequel to Time Travelling with a Hamster, and a whole new time travel adventure!
