Please always read the labels, warnings, and directions provided with the product before using or consuming a product. How many times have I read your “use recipes exactly as written” comments without realising I was using the wrong the critical ingredient. Recipes on flour bags (in my humble opinion) rarely produce bread that tastes anything like real bread.

This bread has whole grains added to our regular all purpose gluten free flour blend that lend a wheaty chew and a beautiful brown color. Usually it's the gluten which makes the dough stretchy, and this is what enables you to knead bread dough. I’m Nicole Hunn, and welcome to Gluten Free on a Shoestring, where we make gluten free food enjoyable and affordable!I tried this with the GF recipe that came with my bread maker, and also the recipe on the packet for breadmaker: tasty but brick; solid, heavy and dense. This bread bakes at 375°F, a slightly higher temperature than you would bake a cake, to encourage “oven spring,” which is the initial rise of yeast bread in the oven, and to help the loaf bake through and brown fully.

A couple of years later, I would go on to develop the recipe for Gluten Free White Sandwich Bread that was published in my first cookbook. I did add in about a tbsp of psyllium husk and an extra spoon of sesame oil, I suspect it will be better without tbh. Here are some considerations for when you are having trouble with a recipe: Did you make ingredient substitutions, particularly the gf flour blend?

I wouldn't suggest using quinoa flour in place of oat flour here, as quinoa flour tends to be bitter. If you can’t eat this bread within a few hours of baking it, I recommend slicing it up, freezing and using it for toast. It may not be reproduced in any way whatsoever without Ocado Limited's prior consent, nor without due acknowledgement. Someone’s saying that the recipe was a “disaster” even though they “followed the recipe to a T” is my tip-off that something unconscious is being changed! We are however changing our supplier in the near future and intend to supply the product derived purely from non GM corn.
