This is again a series where I'm on the fence as to whether I want it adapted into a film or TV series. I think it would work well, with the fantasy lands and animals, and this underdog hero you root for. But on the flip side, I think most of the genius comes from Aisling's creation and what she's managed to bring out of your imagination, and I'm not convinced anyone could capture that as well as it needs to be.

Feitelijk deed het me wat denken aan de wereld die Michelle Paver gecreëerd heeft in Avonturen uit een Magisch Verleden, met alle stammen die hun eigen omgeving en manier van leven hebben (een levenswijze die verweven zit met de omgeving), en de drijvende markt deed mij sterk denken aan de stammenbijeenkomst in Boek 4 - Verstoten. Ik ben blij dat we al wat meer geleerd hebben, en ik hoop dat in het laatste deel (dit wordt weer een trilogie, blijkbaar) nog wat meer van ze gaan zien. Ten eerste konden de hoofdstukken waarin we Joekelhond volgen, me nauwelijks boeien. Heel veel bijzonders en belangrijks gebeurt daar nu ook weer niet in, en sorry, maar het boeit me echt niks dat hij nu ineens gevoelens krijgt en zo. Als personage om over te lezen door de ogen van een andere verteller, is hij best aangenaam, maar om hem zelf te volgen, nee, dat vond ik maar niks.

Laat ik maar eerlijk zijn: het duurde een tijdje voor ik in Boek 2 kwam. Over het algemeen sprak de eerste helft van het boek me minder aan dan ik had verwacht en gehoopt. Het is gelukkig al duidelijk dat Zenith ook in Boek 3 aanwezig zal zijn - hopelijk is haar rol daar even groot. De andere heksen leren we wat minder goed kennen (wat weten we nu bijvoorbeeld van Libbet en Thea?), met uitzondering van Nara. Ik ben ook wel benieuwd hoe het nu verder moet, want als ik het goed heb... zijn er op het einde van Boek 2 niet veel heksen meer over... Vielleicht erfahren wir aber ja auch im dritten Teil mehr über ihn.
