Description

Read on to find out what causes condensation, how to get rid of it – in both the long and short term – and what to do if you have a serious condensation problem. Important note: Each mould test kit analyses one room, so please increase the quantity according to the number of rooms you want to test. We recommend testing bedrooms, living rooms and children’s rooms (where applicable) If you were to allow water to constantly run down the cistern to the floor, damp could eventually form, leading to mould in bathrooms. If the water running down from the toilet was to penetrate your bathroom flooring, it could even lead to rotting issues with timber floor joists too. Add the 50ml bottle of anti-mould paint additive into your choice of paint (2.5 litres), wallpaper paste or tile grout. Mix thoroughly.

When you can, always try to limit the amount of condensation produced in your home. Try to dry clothes outside rather than on radiators on sunny days and, if you don't have an extractor fan, open windows when cooking, washing up or showering. Find out more about how to improve your indoor air quality at home. You may find that having your heating on a constant low heat is better for damp (and for your air temperature) than having it frequently swing between hot and cold. Mould can develop in places with insufficient insulation. This is most noticeable on external walls with inadequate insulation, as the temperature on the inside of the external wall can cool down extremely fast in autumn and winter, causing condensation.

MCS1 Mould Clear Solution carries the HSE Approval No 9453; MCS3 Paint Additive carries the HSE Approval No 7656. Our anti-mould additive has been professionally developed and tested to ensure it effectively prevents mould growth. It works even in high-humidity areas such as bathrooms and kitchens.

Finding the source of where the moisture has originated from and removing it e.g. improving the air ventilation in the property to prevent condensation or fixing a leaking pipe. As mould often occurs in places suffering from damp, illnesses caused by mould can also include symptoms such as a cough, headache or fatigue, which can have a considerable lasting impact on quality of life. Our range of extract fans includes the Nuaire Cyfan, Nuaire Faith, and Nuaire iSense, which are all energy-efficient and operate quietly.

Reduce the amount of moisture produced in the first place by keeping lids on pans when cooking, drying clothes outside when possible, and if you use a tumble dryer, making sure it’s vented to the outside. Thermal resistances can be items of furniture, textiles, curtains and other objects that can retain heat. Air can reach the gaps between the resistances and the walls or floor, but relatively little heat can get in to these spaces. This in turn leads to condensation and moisture, which is highly conducive to mould growth.

Cooking, boiling pans and using the kettle create a lot of steam in a kitchen. As do activities such as washing up, clothes washing and using a tumble dryer. Opening windows wide whilst doing these activities will provide ventilation and allow the warm air to escape rather than cause condensation on the window. Mould is a problem that needs to be taken seriously. It is especially dangerous for families with children, asthmatics, those with a weakened immune system and older people. But mould can pose a serious threat to healthy adults too. A refrigerant dehumidifier works by drawing air through a filter and over cold coils. Water condenses on the coils and drips into a water tank. This type of dehumidifier needs the air to be warm to work, so it’s best suited for use in heated rooms.

The Scourge of Mould

We add moisture to the air all the time just by breathing, as well as from cooking, drying clothes, and from our pets and house plants. The mould wash concentrate is a fungicidal wash that removes the mould from walls and ceilings. It works across a variety of surfaces including tiles, wood and painted surfaces. We have also designed a mould eradication kit that contains a passive condensation vent to deal directly with problem condensation. How to use our mould remover kit If extractor fans aren't cutting it, the next thing to consider is a dehumidifier, which will draw moisture out of the air. These can be particularly useful if you often dry clothes inside the house – another common source of excess humidity. There are different types and brands available, so read up on how to buy the best dehumidifier to find one that does the job. We know that finding everything you need for a DIY project can be time-consuming and expensive – hopefully we’ve made it that little bit easier for you. Buy our Mould Removal Kit here and get rid of mould on your walls for good.

There is always some moisture in the air, even if you cannot see it. If the air getscolder it cannot hold all the moisture and tiny drops of water appear. This iscondensation. You notice it when you see your breath on a cold day, or when themirror mists over when you have a bath.Condensation occurs mainly during cold weather, whether it is raining or dry. Itdoes not leave a ‘tidemark’. It appears on cold surfaces and in places wherethere is little movement of air. Look for it in corners, on or near windows, in orbehind wardrobes and cupboards. It often forms on north-facing walls. How to avoid condensation When the temperature goes down, the amount of moisture that the air can hold falls and the tiny drops of water form on the surface. Ideal for walls and ceilings in private and social housing and a wide range of public and commercial buildings. It is fully washable and resistant to the effects of condensation when the coating is fully dried out.

Removing mould from walls

Try washing musty smelling soft furnishings in the washing machine with some white vinegar added to the usual detergent Try to avoid cold spots – if there’s a gap between your wall insulation and your loft insulation, for example, try to get this fixed as it will attract condensation and possibly mould. A dehumidifier is an air conditioning unit that removes humidity from the air to prevent the build-up of condensation and damp.
