In the original Japanese versions of the games, as well as the European localizations, DJ Octavio does not have the goofy, pun-making persona, but a serious, intimidating demeanor, at one point saying that he will "make...FRIED SQUID RINGS OUTTA YOU!" during the final boss fight of Splatoon. All the Western localizations of Splatoon 3 also display this persona, albeit in some he still uses some music terminology and his laugh. When designing DJ Octavio, the development team of Splatoon first decided on the name "Takowasa" (DJ Octavio's Japanese name). He was then changed from a wasabi maker to a DJ, followed by scratching music being brought in. The sound of the rhythm at the start of his music inspired the decision to match the rhythm with DJ Octavio's wasabi making. [4] In Splatoon, DJ Octavio's English dialogue differs drastically between the North American and European/Oceanian versions of the game, as shown above in the gallery. In later games, his dialogue is standardized between the different versions.DJ Octavio's name may be derived from octopus, octave (as he is a musician), and the Spanish word octavo, which means eighth, as octopuses have eight arms. However, Marina's chat room shows that he allows military training for children as young as six. He is shown to be indomitable and is never demotivated by his losses, no matter how big. [3] As seen during the final boss battle in Splatoon 3, he can put aside his feud with the Inklings against a common enemy. DJ Octavio's first appearance in the manga is in Volume 3, where he kidnaps Cap'n Cuttlefish. He then battles the New Squidbeak Splatoon, but is ultimately defeated. After his defeat, he explains that he stole the Great Zapfish because Octo Valley didn't have enough electricity. Goggles offers to share their zapfish with Octo Valley, which he accepts.

The Tentatek and Inkline mem cakes more closely resemble the brands' logos from Splatoon, rather than Splatoon 2, perhaps because the old logo is how Agent 8 remembered them. Similarly, the Toni Kensa mem cake more closely resembles the round clothes peg used on some of the Kensa weapons, rather than the logo itself, and the SquidForce one is the version of the logo used as a symbol for Turf War. The full name of each choice was "Cake is better than ice cream!" and "Ice cream is better than cake!". The team name portion of Splatfest titles was "Cake" and "Ice Cream". Despite Cap'n Cuttlefish stating that Inklings dry out and lose ink as they age, DJ Octavio doesn't appear to have dried out, despite being in the same age range, which may imply that Octarians do not experience this.Cap'n Cuttlefish's Theme• The Crater• Crater Eighters Routine• Mission Clear! He appears in a modified Octobot King (now dubbed Octobot King L3.Gs). The front speakers now double up as vents and an Ink Vac, with the most prominent feature being its ability to transform between bipedal and flying forms. DJ Octavio's tendency to escape his snowglobe while others are distracted is possibly a reference to real-life octopuses, which are notoriously hard to contain, as they learn to open their tanks by watching their keepers and then escape when left unwatched. DJ Octavio once illegally broadcasted a "provocative" song on an Inkling radio station that Inklings assumed was a publicity stunt. [8] In the Hero Mode 2 arc, like in the game, DJ Octavio has once again stolen the Great Zapfish, and has brainwashed Callie. He then battles alongside Callie against the New Squidbeak Splatoon, only to be defeated again. After Goggles asks why he stole the Great Zapfish again, he explains that Octo Valley ran out of electricity again, and that he wanted to make the lives of the Octarians better.

However, after Agent 3 defeated the Octowhirl, Octavio kidnapped Cuttlefish himself, forcing Cuttlefish's granddaughters, Agents 1 and 2, to guide Agent 3 to Octavio's base. Finally, in Enter the Octobot King!, the group was reunited as Octavio battled the New Squidbeak Splatoon. During the battle, the two agents revealed their true identities as the Squid Sisters and overrode Octavio's music, freeing Cuttlefish and spurring Agent 3 to finally defeat him, rescuing the Great Zapfish and saving Inkopolis in doing so. Inkoming! (Cloud Demo)• Inkopolis News• New You• Without a Dop Doubt• The Shoal• Dubble Bath (DIY Remix)• Inkopolis Memorial Mixtape Mem cakes are compressed memories belonging to Kamabo Co. 's test subjects. [1] [2] They are awarded to test subjects as they pass tests as part of convincing them the "promised land" is real. [3] The description for the Tentakook mem cake may be a reference to Octo Canyon's eleventh mission, The Floating Garden, where the description reads "Chasing Heartache". In Octo Expansion, Agent 8 retrieves their lost memories via an 80 piece set; only Agent 8's equivalent mem cakes appear throughout the mode. These mem cakes are Agent 8's thoughts; some of them are based on experience and memory while others are thoughts about how Agent 8 imagines Inkopolis looks like, inspired by the Inkopolis magazine seen in the metro. All the things that Agent 8 has not experienced yet, but still has equivalent mem cakes for, are inspired by the magazine. Agent 8's mem cakes are shown alongside poems they seemingly wrote themself.
