To be honest, both characters have lots of confidence problems, creating a lot of misunderstandings but both are trying their best to grow and be a little less insecure. First, author style of writing, ut is very neat and enjoyable, she describe the story not too much and not too little, just the right proportion, she add the mood in the scene so we don't just read what's going on but also feel what kind of atmosphere the scene has

It is slow building romance, but believe me, you will not get bored because author play with many elements to keep us interesting while waiting for their progress I also love the ML attributes, behind his inferiority complex, he is actually an excellent leader, a smart man who's good at bargaining, a caring lover, a responsible man, honest man with an overbearing attitude towards our FLAlthough some anticlimatic moments at the start, especially season 2 made me reading through the night and fear for Maxi and Riftan. Beginning her knew life as Lady of a fief, Maxi tries to navigate between new responsibilities, loathing knights, her stuttering and insecuritites and fears from her past. And what is this warm feeling in her chest toward her confusing husband? This is a very bad ‚how to not fall for your husband‘-handbook. Of course you should have stayed in the castle!” Riftan beat his fist against his chest. “Why do you think I work from morning until night? Who do you think these city walls and castle were built for?!” Even deeply in love, Maxi realizes that she needs more in her life to be fulfilled. Riftan risks his life on dangerous adventures protecting the Seven Kingdoms while Maxi is left behind. Desperate to prove her worth, Maxi learns healing magic from the impertinent mage Ruth. But when Riftan discovers that magic is putting her at risk, he is against it. She doesn’t need to help him–her only responsibility as a lady is staying safely at home.

My heart! Oh the pain! It has become so tightly woven around the lives of Riftan and Maxi that it beats and bleeds as theirs do. I felt Maxis fears, anxiousness and love while reading. Most insecurities and the anxiety are very understandable and you’ll find your self yelling ‚just tell him’ 😩 It'd be just a plain lazy and stupid writing if Maxi were to become a confident woman as soon as she'd left her father's house just because Riftan had returned to take her to their fiefdom. Maxi continues to grow as she gets better and better at advocating for what she wants. Her path into magic is super interesting. Though I think her intense need to be useful as a source of value will fail her eventually. Was also pleasantly surprised to see some speech therapy components in this and the way it’s being handled is correct! Practice and repetition and other methods can work for those who stutter. You were terrified by my declaration of war.” He twisted the corner of his mouth and stated coldly. “It seems as if you think that you’ll be safe once my title of being a lord is stripped away from me… I want to tell you that you couldn’t be more wrong. When I am no longer bound by any vow or oath, only then you will come to know for yourself what kind of f**king insane I am.” In fact, the translators are stealing from the author. They should not profit from someone else's work. I find this book really interesting. Although it only shows Maxi's POV, it gets unfortunate when she pushes herself down, other characters learned to respect her as the story progresses. You have to be patient with how the characters develop in the story since it is slow, there are realizations in each character that will only take place in specific events and it helps them to better understand each other as well. The real strong character is Riftan due to his overprotective and obsessive behavior towards Maxi and it doesn't help that he really has a short temper and has a tendency to outburst often.

What do you call it when someone you hate is suddenly owns a very important piece of your heart? Ange definitely barged her way in. Her and Hebaron felt like siblings always ruffling Riftans feathers. I glowed with pride and love for them. Also the young apprentice knight Yulysion was just so *squeeeeeeal*. I don't even have words. I love him. I love Riftan- his fierce protectiveness, his deep and boundless devotion to Maxi, his consuming love. Even though it pushes it's way into obsessiveness, it's clear that his life has been tied to Maxi's for longer and more adently then she could ever guess. Riftan didn’t even seem to understand Ruth’s words. His pupils were dark, dilated, and clouded as if he was possessed by a ghost. His ashen face was strangely distorted. Ruth approached her cautiously, as if trying not to aggravate him as much as possible. What can possibly go wrong if we put together a traumatized female lead with an overbearing-self-conscious male lead that won't stop misunderstanding each other every time they interact with one another in the most ridiculous escenarios ever created by mankind? Kim, the author, never formally requested anyone for English Translation. So when you pay the translators, nothing goes to the author. What Riftan doesn’t expect is Maxi’s refusal to bow to her expected role, and instead determine her own fate. Maxi wants to use her growing skills as a sorceress to fight by his side, to protect Riftan as much as he protects her. Despite Riftan's opposition, Maxi heads off to the Mage Tower to expand her skills and save his reputation.... Let's pretend the story is fine, though it isn't, but if you do like that kind of story that's totally great. One thing I would like to say is: PLEASE PUT TRIGGER WARNINGS. I'm not a sensitive reader, but some are and they have the right to know in this book you have rape and violence. The MC says "no" and "stop" so many times but they are all just ignored. Being handsome and "nice" does not change the fact that this is rape. Second, the character nature chosen was totally different with a common korean romance novel (usually they used extremely rich man and extremely poor woman and otherwise with overbearing, or cold character, entangling in misunderstanding and finally end up together), what different with this one is, author actually don't follow that pattern, instead play with both characters's weaknesses and as the time goes by, they slowly change and heal each other. But although they are each other main reason of change, but the other side characters also play important role especially for the FL

The development of Maxi & her discovery of self. Maxi’s character really gained so much depth in this volume and I was so excited reading it and seeing her become more confident in herself and self-worth. It was done well. This entire last instalment was heavy and upsetting, and I forgot how painful the last few chapters were. The last few paragraphs 😢 This is one of the only books that has ever made me cry. One of the most heartbreaking things I’ve ever read, but it was definitely for the best. They are both so broken and so incredibly similar sometimes (without them realising). Their relationship had become incredibly unhealthy and I’m glad Maxi saw that. Also glad she’s making progress to love herself. Riftan, my heart broke for him but he needs to learn certain parts of his behaviour are unacceptable. (Don’t worry, you’ve got this, I believe in you!!) Now that we’ve moved past the surface, Riftan’s unwillingness to open up is creating an unexpected barrier. His desire to keep his wife safe extending beyond a typical range. On one hand, endearing, on the other, possibly suffocating. I can see its his own insecurities at not being good enough that fuels a lot of it. Waiting for the moments where they open up to each other eventually! Their relationship reminds me of a quote from Lao Tzu: Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength while loving someone deeply gives you courage.
