Zal says: “Alex never had the same creativity with anyone else. But Hugh had felt for a long time that Alex wasn’t good for his life.” Sylvan from Londonhttp://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/delilah-songwriter-sylvan-whittingham-written-10092906 BBC Radio 1 Live in Concert (1991) (recorded for the BBC at The Paris Theatre 1972 and The Hippodrome 1973) Once the Zal Band folded, Zal worked as a cab driver in and around London to support his wife and young family he had at the time.

Finding a way to put 'Lulling Samson to sleep in her lap, Delilah alerted the Philistine rulers who waited in the shadows to capture him. They sheared Samson's hair and, in his newly weakened state, bound him, gouged out his eyes, and forced him to grind grain in the prison at Gaza' into a modern context, was not easy, though I must admit, later on Leonard Cohen did manage to do an amazing job with ' Hallelujah' in 1984. It was not an easy task for him either. He apparently 'wrote around 80 draft verses for 'Hallelujah,' with one writing session at the Royalton Hotel in New York where he was reduced to sitting on the floor in his underwear, banging his head on the floor.'

The melody had already been put down in entirety by Les Reed, who had also had the idea for the theme of the song, and a chorus that had two lines of 'Iy Yi Yi, Delilah.' Les had suggested that the song be based on the story of a modern Samson and Delilah, and Barry and I set to work. Mary from Phoenix, AzI'm soooo not a big fan of Tom Jones, but I just love the way he sings this song! The only line that remained from the original attempt at the Bible story was 'But I was lost like a Slave that no man can free' which still seemed to fit the new story angle. Both covers in the set are inspired — Shakin’ All Over and Just A Gigolo/I Ain’t Got Nobody. The latter would have been quite a fitting last hurrah for Harvey if the ill conceived The Soldier On The Wall had remained in the vaults. R.I.P. Mr. Sullivan (1901 - 1974) and Mr. Jones, born Thomas Jones Woodward, will celebrate his 74th birthday in two months on June 7th.

During the success of SAHB, Cleminson had a distinctive stage presence with SAHB owing to his white-face mime makeup. He started wearing the mime makeup when the band started playing larger venues, so they could see what he was doing on stage easier. Cleminson has said "The mime face came about when I went to Paris to see Marcel Marceau performing and it gave me an idea to have an alter ego and mess around with pulling faces when I played so it gave the audience something to watch and with bigger gigs – more people could see what I was up to". With almost painful honesty Harvey sings: ‘ Saw my best friend die in a plane crash, my brother was killed on the stage… They took my old pal to the madhouse, in horror, in fear and in pain…’ then goes on to reflect: ‘ There is no complaints department/It’s only up to you.’ He wept as he recorded the lead vocal. The Sun embarked on a search for the mystery woman who inspired the song, asking readers to call in if they knew Delia from Llandudno. They called off the search when they heard from Sylvan Mason, who explained that she co-wrote the song and that there was no Delia. According to Sylvan, Les Reed had already written the chorus "Why, why, why Delilah," and the lyric is based on the 1954 musical Carmen Jones. "Les Reed's idea was to write a modern-day Samson and Delilah song but we got carried away and it ended up like Carmen Jones," she told WalesOnline, adding that the line "I was lost like a slave that no man could free" is a reference to Samson being tied up. Around October 2019, Cleminson announced via social media that he was leaving sin'dogs. Zal had reasons of his own to quit. The remaining members of /sin'dogs/ moved on to other projects. Keyboardist David Cowan formed his own band, The Meissner Effect, and continues to tour with The SAHB Experience alongside bassist Nelson McFarlane and has recently released his second solo album Identity: Out Of The Dark Part 2.
