Protect Your Table It was a tight fit to get the lighter into the unit to ignite the starter cube, and we would have appreciated it if the opening was a little wider. With the included stand, this tabletop fire pit can be used on any outdoor table surface (although Solo Stove recommends against using it under a canopy, patio umbrella, or gazebo). You don't realize how small a five-inch piece of wood is until you try to cut some down to size! It took significant effort to cut kindling into five-inch-long pieces for the Mesa. In terms of safety, Mesa’s small size and tabletop format brought me peace of mind when my kids were gathered ’round it. Whereas I’m typically a bit of a helicopter mom around Solo’s bigger firepits, I was much less worried about a kiddo grazing a knee on the firepit’s piping hot exterior or tripping and falling directly into it. Sure, it still got very hot, but with the Mesa, the kids were further away and safely leaning against a table as they roasted their marshmallows. It’s not recommended to build around a Solo Stove as it can obstruct ventilation and increase the risk of fire. The included stand also allows you to use it on any tabletop surface, so you won't have to worry about bringing the right table with you if you travel. Not only was it easier to find wood that fit the stove, but the wood burned for longer than the pellets, so I only had to add a new piece every 15 minutes or so, which made for a more relaxing experience. While the Mesa produced gorgeous flames, it didn't radiate that much heat. You had to hold your hands within six inches of the unit to warm them, so it certainly didn't reach as far as the chairs around our table. It's hot to the touch

Yes, a Solo Stove can be used under a covered patio or porch, but it’s important to ensure proper ventilation to prevent the buildup of smoke and carbon monoxide. Getting a fire going only takes a few minutes with the Mesa, too. Simply place your fuel (wood or pellets) into the base of the Mesa, light your fire starter and boom! You can add more fuel as needed to sustain your mini flame.There’s no assembly required with the Mesa. All you have to do is pop out the little legs on the stand, rest the Mesa on the stand and flip the flame ring so that the narrow opening is on top. If you want to use pellets, simply place the pellet adapter inside the fire pit before filling it with pellets.
