M is for Autism By The Students of Limpsfield Grange of - Wob

Thank God awareness of Autism and Aspergers Syndrome in girls and women is spreading. For years it was believed that only makes were able to be on the Autism Spectrum, this has led to a tidal wave of diagnosis in females as it's recognised that traits can be very different between the two. Has problems with coordination or has odd movement patterns, such as clumsiness or walking on toes, and has odd, stiff or exaggerated body languageI was diagnosed 2 years ago at age 41. The main voice in this book is teenage "M" who shares her story with autism, being a teenager and wanting to be "normal". Being autistic does not mean you have an illness or disease. It means your brain works in a different way from other people. What an insightful read! Thanks Limpsfield Grange for sending M is for Autism into my world. Recommended to teenagers and parents. -- Alis Rowe, aka The Girl with the Curly Hair

If you point at something across the room, does your child look at it? ( For Example, if you point at a toy or an animal, does your child look at the toy or animal?) Answer 1 I am so thrilled to see these amazing girls speaking out and sharing their stories. It's heart-warming, funny, sad at times and educational. It's a short read but carries a powerful message. For Example, pretend to drink from an empty cup, pretend to talk on a phone, or pretend to feed a doll or stuffed animal?) M is for Autism invites us into the world of a young woman with autism and allows us to view it through her lens. What an intriguing world we enter. How to get diagnosed as autistic - NHS How to get diagnosed as autistic - NHS

It is important to know how many autistic people there are for several reasons, including helping to provide support, as well as showing the sheer number and diversity of autistic people. This is also called “autism prevalence”. It is an estimate of how many autistic people there are in the UK. It is not the same as the number of autistic people who have a diagnosis and many autistic people might not have been identified or even know yet themselves. As autism understanding has grown, the estimated prevalence has also changed. The Limpsfield girls certainly found their voice and it has all the urgency, immediacy and sheer vibrancy of teenage life... I hope that M's journey will help girls with autism making that same journey through their early teen years to find themselves and believe in themselves as well as help others understand and believe in them. Does your child like climbing on things? ( For Example, furniture, playground equipment, or stairs) We need to harness all this evidence coming to us and marshall it to incentivise more research, more help for schools and Camhs.Thank you for your time with this patient and his/her family. For more information please visit: http://www.autismspeaks.org/first-concern-action. Does your child get upset by everyday noises? ( For Example, does your child scream or cry to noise such as a vacuum cleaner or loud music?) By telling M's story, the students of Limpsfield Grange School have told their own stories and have done everyone a valuable service. Not only have they provided awareness that autism doesn't just affect boys and helped readers get priceless insight into how autism works, but they have also helped parents and caregivers of kids with autism, like myself, be more aware of their own behaviors and provided those with autism with a book that just might help them understand more about this thing called autism that seems to take up so much of the space around and within them. M's counselor's messages to M about her value as a person being about so much more than her autism were something that all people should hear, and I'm incredibly grateful that I discovered this little gem of a book.

Does your child like climbing on things? ( For Example, furniture, playground equipment, or stairs) Answer 4 taking things very literally – for example, you may not understand sarcasm or phrases like "break a leg" If you turn your head to look at something, does your child look around to see what you are looking at?The M-CHAT-R is a screening tool, and because no screening tool is perfect, research recommends that the original 20 questions include a Follow-Up Interview. This interview will improve the specificity of the screen, and also provides an opportunity for you to discuss the parent or caregiver's specific concerns. Administering the M-CHAT-R Follow-Up Interview may also reduce unnecessary referrals. Does your child show you things by bringing them to you or holding them up for you to see — not to get help, but just to share? Well done all. We need more books like this to promote understanding that we are all different in our own way and that is ok as it makes for an interesting world. How awful would it be if we were all the same?
