Other than the fact that our floors are now sparkling, we've officially come to a verdict on which Henry hoovers are the best models. Previous versions of Henry came with two settings for suction power, operated by a high and low switch. So that he can continue to deliver as a vacuum, Henry has had a number of iterations over the years as Numatic have made tweaks to ensure he remains very good at what he does best. Henry the Hoover has become a mainstay in British households since his introduction in the early 1980s, meaning the original Henry Hoover has now been cleaning UK households and workplaces for more than fourty years. It does also come with an additional hard floor head, but other than that it’s not much different to the Henry.

Whilst you can vacuum without bags, it really isn’t a good idea as dust and debris will get sucked up into the filter and it will become clogged very quickly. However, it doesn’t remove other types of allergens so if you need a filter that can, the Xtra wouldn’t be the most suitable choice.Probably best known for this appearance – something which has helped to make this vacuum cleaner something of a celebrity and household name – it shouldn’t be forgotten that he is also a very capable vacuum. To enhance your Henry machine’s performance over both carpets and hard floors, the Henry ProKit is a great option.

This means that you have additional, specialist floor heads for cleaning both carpets and hard floors when you opt for the Henry Xtra. He’s not quite as powerful as a corded Henry, but he’s a very able machine and comparable to other cordless vacuums on the market. She tried out the Henry HVB160 cordless vacuum cleaner for us to see how it contended against the classic Henry HVR160 model. The three-stage, HEPA filtration system traps particles up to 800 times smaller in width than a human hair, meaning the Henry Allergy does a lot more in this regard than a normal vacuum cleaner, including others in the Henry range. The Xtra takes all the fantastic features from the original machine and adds some added extras on top.

Independently rated as the UK’s most reliable vacuum brand, a Henry Hoover should last for many years and comes with a two year warranty in case anything breaks in those first two years. The main negative with the Xtra is that it’s fairly heavy and not the best vacuum for cleaning stairs, but it does have many positives. With such a large range it is tough to pick an outright favourite, but with all these hoovers coming from Numatic you’ll be getting a fantastic vacuum whichever you decide to go with. The Henry 160-11 model is a different story, it has the same 620 watt power as the Henry Xtra, but a much smaller capacity at 6 litres compared to the Xtra’s 9. This helps to increase airflow and vastly increase performance, despite the newer Henry’s having significantly less wattage than its previous versions. Yellow in colour, James has a slightly smaller bag capacity – eight litres rather than nine – than that of the Henry 200-11, his more famous family member.

Other accessories include a thin crevice tool which is useful for removing dirt from tight spaces, as well as a range of smaller dusting brushes. When it comes to battery life, the Henry HVB is equipped with two batteries that have 30 minutes of charge respectively. Henry's great features make cleaning easy, including his super long-reach, "trouble free" rewind 10m cable, huge 9L capacity and handy, on-board tool storage. Another standout feature is the impressive suction that works well on carpet and hard floors, part in thanks to the universal floorhead. With previous experience within the Home section of TopTenReviews, another Future site, writing about everything from ride-on lawnmowers to robot hoovers, she has knowledge of all of those niche areas of your home and garden that you might need a new purchase for.The HairoBrush is great at picking up stubborn pet hairs which can be hard to remove from carpets and furnishings, and the charcoal-activated MicroFresh filter helps to reduce lingering pet odours that can make a house smell funny.
