K. will be receiving a Collector’s Edition Steelbook 4K Ultra HD release on October 31, those of us across the pond have been salivating over any news to come out from the shadows and into the light. Casual fans can probably skip this and just watch the documentary features, but diehards should give it a listen. The only slight note of imperfection in this is that some of the insanely bright whites can bloom a little – never across the whole screen, but in certain highlights, it’s the only very minor blight on an otherwise outstanding image.I had high hopes which have been surpassed - the overall package is about as good as it gets in my opinion and is matched only by how good this film is. They’d go on to star in a few other 80’s classics with License to Drive (my personal favorite of their team ups) and Dream a Little Dream. For Michael, he is sucked (no pun intended) into a gang of rebellious hoodlums led by the handsomely stylish David (Kiefer Sutherland), and a case could even be made that Michael was actually seduced Star's (Jami Gertz) come-hither charm.

If, for some reason, you’re reading this and haven’t ever experienced this film – there’s no time like the present…er, past? Stepping away from any genre at all, it’s even rarer when a confluence of director and script produces something that is so perfectly blended to their sensibilities and style, it is the very definition of true movie magic. There’s another classic horror movie coming to 4K, Warner Bros are releasing The Lost Boys 4K UHD + Blu-ray this September in the United Kingdom. The film's best aural effect are the vampire flying scenes, but otherwise only the occasional stinger is apparent.Greg Cannom’s vampire make-up is first rate and a complete re-invention of well-trodden (even back then) preconceptions, deciding to move where the fangs would be in the mouth and balance the actor’s good looks with subtle prosthesis.

The audio isn't that spectacular, but that's hardly a fatal flaw in an otherwise strong catalog release. Grain is also much improved over the previous DVD, which often looked fuzzy and indistinct (particularly with red, which is a dominant color throughout the film).

The 4K disc in the package will work on any UHD player, but the Blu-ray is Region B only and the DVD is Region 2 only. After countless viewings, Joel Schumacher's The Lost Boys is a personal favorite that continues to entertain although the 80s cult horror classic remains very much a product of its time. Then, there are also the homoerotic undertones in a story where the teenager Michael, just as he is coming to a sexual awakening of his own, is arguably seduced by the bad-boy David just as much by Star.
