With Ruin's rage loosening his control, Marsh manages to use the intercepted message as Kelsier secretly intended and removes Vin's earring spike.

Not to detract from the story or the narrator at all, but as i have listened to the arcanum unbounded, this is one of the short stories within that book! If you are still reading the series then you need to add this novella to your TBR and make it part of your Mistborn reading schedule. I would not recommend to read it if you have not read the first three books already, or if you have not, but plan on reading them. The mechanisms behind what happened in the original Mistborn trilogy are complex and difficult to grasp at the best of times, but this complicates things even more. I can’t go into details regarding the plot as I am keeping this spoiler free but I love a smart author and Sanderson is one of the smartest authors ever.The comment about some of the sixteen seeing killing Adonalsium as the 'only good option' is likely to have more truth to it, and that's rife for speculation. The seventh story in the Mistborn series is a fascinating diversion from what's gone before, revealing a secret second storyline which occurred simultaneously with the original trilogy.

Still, the concept of Adonalsium being a living being is new, to my knowledge, and I can't help but suspect Sanderson deliberately introduced this idea. Hoid shows up and chides Kelsier for destroying the Pits of Hathsin, the only perpendicularity that was easy to access. Goradel, a messenger with Kelsier's warning about spikes, travels from Urteau to Fadrex, while Kelsier watches, but Ruin sends for Marsh, who kills Goradel and reads the message aloud to Ruin. Other people, victims of the Lord Ruler's purge, arrive in the Realm with Kelsier and are almost immediately pulled away to the Beyond.On top of that you get some deeper understanding of Sanderson’s big picture “Cosmere” and the “Shards”, which is helpful when reading The Stormlight Archive books. I would recommend reading it however either before era 2 or directly after book 6 because a lot of time has passed since I read it and honestly, I wish I read it much earlier.It is told from the POV of Kelsier and I would not want to say anything about it, except that it is very much Kelsier and his stubborn refusal to do what is expected of him. Ruin is urging Spook to murder, but this plot is not among his priorities, so Kelsier can intervene. With a renewed sense of purpose, Kelsier studies Ruin and his motives, riding out the pulses into the world. They are definitely worth the read and it's clear that Sanderson has only more great stories in this world ahead for us.
