Description

I always try and add books to any subject we study, however, I couldn’t find any book lists for kids on the Patron Saint of Wales. So these are the best books about Wales that children will love: Colouring also helps children to learn about lines, shapes, colours/hues, perspective, patterns and forms. The dragon itself is called Dewi, modern Welsh for David. This is a reference to its connection with St. David, the patron saint of Wales. During his life he became a very important religious figure among early Celtic Christians. He founded at least 12 monasteries, including a foundation at Glyn Rhosyn, which became a Christian shrine and the most important religious centre in Wales of its time. The image of the dragon will fascinate children. Use it as a prompt to start classroom discussions or to introduce the legend of the Welsh dragon. Another option would be to try our St David’s Day Word Search to prompt a discussion about what children already know about St David’s Day and what they want to find out. For example, who was St David? Why do we celebrate St David’s Day?

mynd yn biws (gan gynddaredd), troi'n biws (gan gynddaredd) - to get purple in the face (with anger) On this worksheet, as well as having fun colouring in the dragon, children are exposed to the Welsh vocabulary for colours and they can draw a line to match these to the colours on their picture once they’ve finished decorating. Colour the Welsh Daffodil for St David’s Day

We also provide some bright and colourful Welsh flag bunting that's perfect for using around the time of Saint David's Day to help children learn about the patron saint of Wales, or as a great way of helping children to connect to the image of the Welsh flag. As David was a monk, he was a vegetarian and was claimed to have only drunk water. He became known as “ David the waterman”.

Etymology: from gwin (wine), from the Proto-Brythonic *gwin (wine), from late Proto-Celtic *wīnom (wine), from the Latin vīnum (wine, grapes, grapevine). Etymology: from the Proto-Brythonic *glas (green, blue), from Proto-Celtic *glastos (green, blue), probably from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰl̥h₃stós, from *ǵʰelh₃- (“green, yellow”).
